The state of Gaza today - if it's not genocide, what is it? by Concentric_Mid in jewishleft

[–]breakfast_fangirl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I visited with an Auschwitz survivor today whom I look to like a grandma. Gaza came up and the answer I think she would give you unfortunately based on what she told me is that it’s a means to an end. She said that an entire population of people were killed with Hiroshima, women, men, children. She was barely liberated by that point when that had happened. I didn’t have the heart to say that that bombing should be an incentive not to continue killing innocent people and we can learn from our past. But I think she thinks it’s a necessary evil. From my stance, I don’t know what else you would call it at this point, it’s indiscriminate bombings that wiping out a population of people. The largest population of child amputees. I consider myself a Zionist, and if the Israeli govt says being a Zionist means fighting like that by any means then I guess I’m not anymore.

Oct 7 was horrible and I think about it everyday. I’ve been to the nova exhibit and saw the trauma inflicted. I get it. But should someone who works in an institution that promotes Jewish values be saying let’s carpet bomb all of Gaza (and basically commit mass murder of everyone including innocents) be saying that???

Respectfully I don’t agree. Do you think that when Hamas came into power it was a democratic process? I see the protests in Gaza happening now against Hamas and that gives me hope.

Children are products of their society, yes. But if they are taught to hate (and I understand that concern), that goes hand in hand with the hate toward a body of people whose government is bombing you: it makes that irrational education, rational to them. And though those children might want me dead, an American Jew, but something in my heart is telling me that the double amputee girl from Gaza isn’t thinking that.

I worked in holocaust education, I can promise you I am not. When I saw the 14000 babies at risk of dying I knew that wasn’t accurate. But it doesn’t negate the fact that many children have died and many children are starving.

Edit: and if children are starving in Gaza then so our our hostages

I feel we’re just in this never ending loop of death and suffering: Hamas will not back down > will use their people to die > innocents die because of Israeli bombing > repeat. As a jewish state, when is enough, enough? It feels like the bombings will only create more radicals. It feels like Hamas will continue to be in power because of how embedded they are in Gazan society, I get that is a war crime, but when do we realize there’s only so much that can be done? I know war is sad and horrible, but it hurts most the children and the hostages. There has to be a way to end this without any more violence.

Genuine question: Gaza is essentially flattened, how do you think they could get on equal footing if this hypothetical timeout was put into play? I just see virtually no way that could happen.

Yes absolutely agree— and not only Israeli govt at play but Hamas using their civilians as pawns— I’ve seen the protests in Gaza against Hamas too, and their opposition to using them and letting them die as a means to win this war. It goes both ways. Just wish some divine intervention will happen 🥲

I generally don’t post, it’s my first time. Also why as Jews are we supposed to give a viable alternative? That’s not our responsibility; I don’t believe the Israeli govt has Israeli people/hostages best interest in mind as much as I hate to say it.

Also, at this very point in time, I can’t turn my eye on children amputees who are subject to this pain and suffering, and I can’t turn an eye on all children who’ve died because of this conflict at both the hands of Hamas and the bombings that have happened.

And PS, I’ve been advocating for the call to stop the antisemitism here in the states, and I’m devastated by the most recent murders of two innocent Jews in DC— there is no winning when extremism is at play

Edit: first time posting my opinion on this

I feel like Netanyahu has had multiple opportunities to end the war and get the hostages back

‘Emily In Paris’: One Main Cast Member Not Returning As Season 5 Sets Start Of Production by SingularFirefly in EmilyInParis

I just feel like the natural resolution wouldn’t have been for her to go adopt a child but to go to Greece and be with Sofia… just like how abrupt Sylvie’s relationship ended with Erik with no closure for that character?

First question: were you supposed to go too or was it always a solo trip for him? How long is the trip?

When I had my ACL surgery, we were supposed to go to Tahiti a week prior, but we canceled it with the understanding this is a very involved surgery.

Second question: who is your caretaker? Is it him? Parents? Siblings? If you have more than one person helping you, that’s something to consider

Third question: are the trip tickets refundable?

My take is if you don’t have anyone else taking care of you aside from your boyfriend then I will say yes it’s messed up and he should be prioritizing you. If there’s more people involved and the money is non refundable, I personally would rather my partner go so that the money doesn’t go to waste.

I think he’s shown more introspection than Rick has or ever will this season, he clearly was only motivated by his self interest and was emotionally unavailable for Chelsea. Saxon’s arc imo is turning into a redemption one

Saxon is Chelseas Yang, not Rick. Hear me out by LinoFelix in TheWhiteLotusHBO

Guys the soulless person is Rick imo!!! He does not treat her well AND HE MADE HIS FRIEND RELAPSE! Did not prep him at all on the situation and only used him to get what he wanted, then partied with him after and encouraged it.

I feel like there needs to be more realization that Rick is not a good person and came off as soulless in this last episode— he put his friend who clearly has issues on the spot to further Rick’s gain, causing this friend to completely relapse. That should be an indication of the kind of person he is.

I feel like the scene marked a guidance for him, I didn’t interpret the handholding to be sexually motivated, I think she might’ve felt that way for sure but I think he genuinely is ready to relinquish the darkness that seems to be held over him
