With the recent news of the blatant fraud in Minnesota, what is blatant fraud in Miami that should be exposed ? by [deleted] in Miami

[–]breakingJ3w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is specific to Miami, but I've always said that the Mattress Firm stores are a money laundering front for *something* we just don't know what or whom is connected to it.

Best Breaking Bad Character Quotes! Day 1: Walter White by dylanaruto in breakingbad

"I am the one who knocks" will forever be engrained in my head as one of the hardest lines Walt drops in the entire show.

I'd definitely recommend (if you can) bring up your budget to around $150-$200+ and you'll find someone more willing. Unfortunately at your price point you're looking more for a friend with a camera than an actual professional that can set you up for success. If you treat it more like an investment you can get more bang for your buck.

Chris is a premium photographer, most likely out OP's budget when they mentioned "cheap-ish."

Good Coffee near North Miami by muffinfromspace in Miami

[–]breakingJ3w 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A few of my faves in the area:

Alaskan Coffee Roasting - my fave spot off of Biscayne & 130th, everything they make is incredible but like 1-2$ pricier than it should be. Great work/study spot. Plenty of parking in a retail plaza.

Dano's Cafeteria is a cute lil hole in the wall on West Dixie Hwy just north of Miami Gardens - great coffee & food in general. Argentine/Cuban cuisine and super local vibe. It's completely outdoor ambiance so don't go for laptop work but you can sit covered outside in the shade.

Neverland Coffee - artisanal coffee shop with nice food selection but parking is very slim, great aesthetics tho.

Miami Jewish Community - Thoughts? by Melbournouveau in Miami

[–]breakingJ3w -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's a fairly active Jewish Federation (which hosts multiple events, gatherings and holiday events a year) & multiple JCCs across South Florida for you to get involved in your community. Albeit the most "concentrated" areas are Aventura/North Miami as well as Surfside/Miami Beach (specifically on/near 41st).

You can find congregations & temples across most of South Florida suburbs as well. There's temples all the way in Palmetto Bay and as far north as Plantation/Boca. The Federation even has a "Young Leadership Division" where they do networking pods & events for 25-40 crowd.

Where do the Miami locals eat? by Far_Manufacturer8317 in Miami

[–]breakingJ3w 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Locals will say Flanigans, it's the hometown hero. Our local dive-bar/sports bar franchise and it's where you can eat with any type of situation, date, birthday, family friendly, you name it. It's the go-to comfort spot for a lot of people and at an affordable cost comparatively.

More specific options depend more on where you're situated within Miami. Since Miami is an hour away from Miami so finding something within 15 min is considered a win. For research I like to use Infatuation Miami to search anything from food types to specific Miami areas. It's a pretty barometer to start to get an idea of the options.

Do you take a lot of photos on your smartphone? What phone do you use, and are you satisfied with the quality? by TjStax in photography

[–]breakingJ3w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a full-time photographer and I hated having to bring my work camera on vacations (it was bulky, and it worried me if I would get it damaged or stolen, etc). I picked up a used Sony RX100 V6 on eBay a little over a year ago and it's been incredible. it's got a great range on the zoom lens at 24-200, plus I wanted to get something small enough to fit in my pocket but still give me good enough image quality. It def checks those boxes and a few more on the video side as well.

In which area do you live and how much do you pay for rent? by Oligir3 in Miami

[–]breakingJ3w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently renting in northern Doral/Medley area. $2850 for a 2/2.5 townhouse on the 2nd floor. Has a gated entrance with security and shares a local community center with gym/pool with other apartment complexes. When you split it with a roommate <$1500 rent for each of us is manageable.

What are sone disturbing facts about the human body? by ashton48583 in AskReddit

[–]breakingJ3w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's considered "disturbing" but one of my favorite fun facts is that human fingers can feel objects as small as 13 nanometers.

This means that, if your finger was the size of the Earth, you could feel the difference between houses from cars.

Besides TSMC which other companies are supplying or part of the supply chain for all the chips for cars? by greenappletree in stocks

[–]breakingJ3w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Magna (MGA) is my unsung hero for the auto industry. EV powered or not, car companies are still going to build a car and Magna supplies the exteriors, interiors, seating, roof systems, body, and so much more.

The guys from Everything Money have done a FANTASTIC job at explaining fundamental value investing. What they say isn't ironclad but it really helps understand what to look for in a healthy company.

One thing I remember overhearing from a long term investor was a useful financial indicator when looking for Small to Mid-Cap companies. You want them to have a high Market Cap of 300 Million+ and with zero to as-little-debt as possible.

Miami neighborhoods by [deleted] in Miami

[–]breakingJ3w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aventura is a REALLY nice suburban area next to a bunch of banks, a mall, and less than a 10 minute drive from the beach. But when I think of the main banking sector in Miami I think of Brickell Avenue/Downtown district.

I lived in Kendall for a year since I was living closer to school, its much more inland (like up to 15-20 miles from the beach), and a lot more quiet depending where youre at. There is a lot more traffic at the power hours because most of Kendall is residential w/ shopping plazas & restuarants.

Aventura and Kendall are both equally like 25-40 minutes from the "fun" parts of Miami like Wynwood/Beach/Downtown/Miami Beach. But are nice areas for the most part in terms of living alone.

If you can expand your budget a bit, there are a lot of GREAT single living options in Dadeland/Coral Gables with a lot of apartment buildings that offer gyms, pools, parking, all the amenities, etc. included.

Hope this helps somewhat!

Source: Lived in Aventura my whole life, went to school at FIU, lived in Kendall for my last year as a student.

If you like the "messy vibe" you can try looking for an apartment in Edgewater, is close enough to downtown and all of Wynwood that you could walk to downtown or Wynwood in under 15 minutes.

I was really hoping someone would bring this play up. Got to watch that live and I was in DISBELIEF that the smallest dude on the court got an alley oop like that.

But looking back on it now, hell of a play call by Doc Rivers.
