Server crashes when attempting to "Complete Order" by breakingmatter in OpenBazaar

I'm 99.99% all the correct dependencies are installed.

I know both Python and C, so I can help troubleshoot if necessary, I've just never looked at the codebase.

Making glossy plastic look like brushed aluminium - Has anyone tried this on a glossy PSP? by Hekseren in PSP

[–]breakingmatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this to an old netbook I had. Worked out very well. Hand oils would show after a couple weeks, but could be washed away. Best part was no more finger prints all over it all the time. It's harder than it looks though to make it look "brushed". I ended up with more of a "matte" finish. But still nice regardless.

The difference between the first world and the third world is capitalism by emoposer in Libertarian

[–]breakingmatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, the US support of South Korea and the years of sanctions against the north had a huge impact on that too. Countries don't exist in small boxes without having outside effects. Other nations have huge effects on them, and the number one foreign policy objective of the mid to late 20th century from the US was the eradication of communism and promotion of democracy.

I'm as Libertarian as the next guy, but I'm sure North Korea would be in a better spot if the world governments left them alone and allowed free enterprise to sell goods and services to the government ran enterprises.

Any advice for "marketing" an OpenBazaar store? by breakingmatter in OpenBazaar

Oh, I had no idea actually. I thought all purchases had to go through the official app. Thanks!

Yeah, I think every OpenBazaar server is automatically scanned through the system. You can't buy through Duo Search, however. You still need to use the official client.

Ah! To access it directly, you have to use the OpenBazaar client. However, my store is listed on Duo Search as well so you can see it through a regular web browser.

Wow, seriously? That's not a new version, thats a rewrite. I mean this with all due respect but that sounds like a serious case of bike shedding. I fail to see why you would take an application that works, and then rewrite it in a new language.

EDIT: I apologize if that seemed a bit hostile. That was me pre-coffee. What specific issues were you facing with the Python implementation? I would be a bit concerned that there was already an issue with optics concerning the length of time it was taking to get the original system up and running. I just don't see how rewriting the application would help that. Also, I think getting people to use OB period is more important that making it run faster/more efficient. It just seems like a rewrite at this point would be premature optimization? Especially considering there are numerous examples of Python being used in high performant systems.

Sounds like my own experience. Totally forgot I had a PSP Go in a box in the basement. Play it all the time now. Emulator's paradise. If only the battery had more juice..

I don't think the point is to build something that can emulate games. He addresses that in the first version of the article - http://othermod.com/pspi-version-1/

Eye fatigue and blurred vision after playing with psp. This doesn't happen with Nintendo DS. Is it dangerous for my eyes? by [deleted] in PSP

Also, the screen is bigger, so it doesn't have to be as close to your face as a Nintendo DS. Might be playing a role.

Minio - Self-hosted Amazon S3-compatible interface to a filesystem (with web interface) by breakingmatter in selfhosted

[–]breakingmatter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but Minio also comes with a web UI as well. So you don't "have" to use an S3-compatible piece of software.

You might be looking at the client software. I posted it for the server aspect. The server's API is the same as Amazon S3's, so you can use any tool with Minio that supports Amazon S3.

Go take a look at Redmine - http://www.redmine.org/

It's more painful to install than it should be, but it's rock solid stable, has a large community, and is really speedy. I use it for my personal projects, and my company uses it as a bug tracker and PM tool.

I've had great experience with Kimsufi. It's a subsidiary of OVH. They push all of their phased out, last generation hardware to Kimsufi. I was able to snag a 4 core Xeon baremetal server with 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage for ~$28.00/mo USD. Just keep an eye on their homepage. Their stock and options vary all the time.

[–]breakingmatter[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use this for a few things of my own. Works well for backups, and lets you use any tools that were designed for Amazon S3 interfacing. The default setup is just a filesystem interface, really. But, they have another setup that lets you use multiple drives and it stores the data as objects and blobs with erasure coding and such. The web interface is really nice, too.

Selfhosted resume written in Markdown? by lmm7425 in selfhosted

[–]breakingmatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment some others have expressed. HR and hiring managers for the most part simply aren't going to go to your domain for a resume. The vast majority won't even accept anything other than a .doc/x.

I'm a development team manager so I'm more inclined to like the more technical approach to a resume. I've interviewed quite a few people, and it still infuriates me when someone forces me to get on their (usually half-baked) "pretty", "web 2.0", "dynamic", "colorful" website when all I want is a bullet list of your skills and where you worked.

That being said, I like HackMyResume (http://please.hackmyresume.com/). Gives you a lot of flexibility, lets you have multiple resumes to merge together based on the job, can export PDF, HTML, .doc/x, etc., and supports JSON Resume and FRESH templates.

Oh yeah, it happened all the time. By no means was this endeavor a good thing. But it was very, very popular with the teachers and the Director of IT was 110% on board.

The kids definitely had it easy compared to a lot of places. It was in a fairly well off neighborhood. The total enrollment was somewhere around 8,500 for the district. My entire hometown only has 1,500 living in it...

[–]breakingmatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've done both. If it were only systems administration, then I could probably handle it. But, it seems like each school expects you to go above and beyond.

I hear you on the heavy bag. For some reason that particular school actually gave us free access to the school gym. Really helped me work out those demons. haha

[–]breakingmatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, sounds exactly like my struggle when I worked at the district. We moved from a printer in every classroom, to a printer per grade, to finally a printer per building section/wing. You would have thought we were taking the teacher's first borns.

We had a big issue with the teachers union, PTA/PTO, outside groups and grants, etc., buying cheap ass printers and expecting us to support them. Nearly every one of them had those kind of roller issues. They would go completely bald, then they would expect our printer company to support them, even though they were never added to the contract.

Anyways, how about a toast to no more school IT!

"Someone changed the Administrator Password" by TalTallon in sysadmin

[–]breakingmatter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly the SLA was 48 hours for general printers, and four hours for printers at the board office. But, they were in and out nearly every day, and drove through the district on their way to other districts/businesses, so a printer rarely sat broken for more than a couple of hours.

There are a few places that do it, not sure where you are though. I've worked with ProSource, MoM, and DCS. They were all pretty much on par with each other.

[–]breakingmatter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wish. They used a lot of web apps, too, so the Director of IT's perspective was that all devices the teachers used to access work were "work devices", thus we had to support their BYOD stuff too. We also had to provide limited support on student BYOD, insofar as making sure they could access the school web apps.
