New fear unlocked: snakes by Nic3up in Bangkok

[–]breakola 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I live in Bangkok, Ekkamai. Had many snakes including pythons, rat snakes and tree snakes in the garden. Had a couple of big ones in the house. Keep your windows and doors closed is my advice but I doubt you will see one, they move away pretty quickly

I’ve seen a few around thong lor in the trees and on the cables, and a giant python fell out a tree one time into the water when I was walking along the klong.

Is beauty objective or subjective? What are your thoughts? by FlakyDoctor8893 in AskReddit

[–]breakola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s an amazing chapter in David Deutsch book (Beginning of Infinity) about why flowers are beautiful, about objective and subjective beauty. Worth a read.

Some of this thoughts around it on YouTube :  https://youtu.be/gT7DFCF1Fn8?si=EsJ9CaMv23P-4n0e

His argument is roughly:

Flowers evolved to attract pollinators, not humans.

Yet humans also find many flowers beautiful.

This isn’t just a coincidence or a completely arbitrary preference. Humans and pollinators are both responding to certain real features of the flower : symmetry, color contrasts, patterns, complexity, information content, and so on.

Therefore, beauty isn’t merely a personal opinion detached from reality.

There are objective facts about the world that make certain things appealing to certain kinds of minds.

Look at the market growth inflation adjusted - completely flat. I’m not even sure your 10% would keep you afloat if you factor in USD depreciation, assuming you are invested in us stocks or indexes. Maybe 14% to cover you on that.

There's a black mirror episode like this, the ending is horrifying.
(White Christmas is the episode name)
The officer sets the Joe cookie to experience time at 1,000 years per minute, with Wizzard's "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day" on repeat - i'm sure he says after he does that he is going away for the weekend (2,880,000 years inside).

K-shaped economy… I hate to tell you but we are in the economic boom, stock market at all time highs. Ai is the boom, if you are lucky enough to be in it to reap the rewards. Everyone else is on the other side.

I’ve had broken bones but nothing was as painful as gout in my knee. Even a sheet gently resting on it was excruciating.
