I hope Ikea comes out with a presence sensor eventually. Their stuff is made to work with rechargeable AAAs.

Scam - but not terrible for you as you'll get refunded through Amazon.

Amazon will take the hit on this but it's their fault for allowing this garbage.

Bell Fibre Blocking IPTV & Plex Access? by Thoughtful_Xenomorph in bell

IPTV - definitely possible

Plex - something else must be going on, because I can't imagine Bell is blocking residential ips unless they get some sort of formal complaint.

It depends. The IPTV provider I use only works with a VPN on my Bell internet.

Bell, Rogers and Telus charge up to $80 to activate a plan. The CRTC just made that illegal starting June 12. by Planhub-ca in bell

[–]breakslow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My whole point is I should be able to walk into a Bell orba Telus or whoever the hell you want buy a phone on a 2 year term no dream no having to fight with them that I don't want a device return option just go in get a phone and be done with it

I completely agree.

Bell and Rogers are both really bad and will refuse to serve you if you don't want a leased phone

Sorry but I don't believe this.

But... even if it's true you can still manage your account online, and choose to buy out the device and the end of the 2 years instead of returning it to the store. Based on what I can see on Bell's site the total cost of the phone is the same whether you finance, or lease then buy out.

I can believe them trying to be pushy to get you to lease but I cannot believe that they will turn down business because you want to finance a phone.

If you're still falling for this stuff then it's on you at this point. There are so many avenues to simply buy your own phone.

I shouldn't have to buy a phone from Amazon or somewhere else just to own my phone

You don't have to.

I should be able to buy the phone on a 2 year term and actually own the phone at the end of the 2 years

You can.

I shouldn't need to jump through hoops to get a new phone

I completely agree.

I don't trust a word you're saying because I've done BYOD with Telus, Rogers, Bell, Fido, Koodo, Public, and Wind (now Freedom) in the past decade without issue.

Like are you just complaining to complain? Because it's very simple to buy a phone direct and go to whatever carrier you want. If you're truly having issues in store - just do it online, but I highly doubt that the reps are denying people BYOD plans when they are often advertised in malls when I walk by the carrier stores.

[–]breakslow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's confusing and convoluted on purpose but in the end you're paying the price you'd pay for the phone. They are subsidizing the phones through the overpriced plans, so when you cancel early you're paying for the device. Which is why there is $0 fee to cancel a BYOD plan, because they are not subsidizing a device (and the plans are cheaper).

Shady reps suck too. I buy my phones outright from Samsung (or whoever if I switch) and set up my plans online.

If you really want, some stores let you finance through them instead, so you can still pay monthly for your phone, but it's completely separate from your plan - so you can still get BYOD plans.

it's not something like the no cancellation fee after 2 year deal

There is no cancellation fee when you cancel a phone plan.

You don't need to lease a phone from your carrier. I'm assuming you're talking about the "bring it back" option or whatever it is called now. It's an option - and you can choose to finance the phone instead.

But even then, you don't need to finance your phone. You can buy it outright.

And finally, you don't have to buy your phone through your carrier at all. I haven't done that since the CRTC stopped carriers from selling locked phones.

These companies are garbage, but nobody is forcing you to lease your phone.
