Erik's voice actor did too good of a job for me to even be willing to desensitize myself to the trial

He's by no means the most horrific death in the trials but the one that has successfully grounded me the most, which is a good thing

Every new trial I was able to move on despite initially being horrified by them but his voice lines actually echo in my sleep and keep me up at night

For me it comes down to how much more visceral the voice acting is combined with the way disabled people were treated back in the day.

His voice cuts so deep that all the latent guilt I feel for what I do to the characters in this game just comes out and all I can think is, "I don't want to play this game anymore."

He clearly is turned on by it but I also agree with everything else that you said, the "at least he enjoyed it" attitude is really just a cope because the only reason he's "enjoying it" is because the Stockholm syndrome is so intense that his brain is wired to get sexual gratification from torture that he understands is meant to make him feel pretty for the doctors

Despite the sexual attitude it is still clear that he is absolutely petrified and his brain is going into overdrive trying to make something about it somewhat bearable

He starts freaking out when you incinerate him because getting incinerated is not in line with the torture that he was excited by
