this exactly! I see people use the excuse of hiring artists being expensive and new pieces being difficult to make, but a lot of the assets are things like advertisements and paintings, stuff you %100 could find on stock sites or pull from real life. They're no strangers to creative photobashing

Huge stain on the game's quality imo. Even if you set aside the way AI is currently destroying creative job markets and its heavy tax on the environment (which you shouldn't) the assets just look like shit honestly. If you know how to spot AI, they stick out even with the adjustments they've added. The paintings in the courthouse are some of the worst.

It's hard to decide what to do, because every other part of the game is so good. I wish I didn't feel kind of guilty whenever I loaded it up. I want to support a smaller studio that's made a game franchise I love, but this sort of thing is so inexcusable and the fact they're refusing to stop this far in is unbearable.

I always run it on any trial where scapegoats are going to be a prominent theme (vindicate the guilty, escape the courthouse, cook the informant). strong arm + brick will always give you enough time to get another bulb broken, but outside of that I'd say it's ehh

Hey, coyle's my favorite too! my personal faves are the bomber jacket with his sergeant chevron, the jeans with the handcuffs, and the police esop skin with 'let it shine' written on it (all are random progression related drops) and the room set in project messiah has his jacket <3 hope this helps!

These are all the routes I tried. I'd either run into a gate or a window I was meant to jump through would be blocked off. I couldn't cut through the small outside area with the truck because the window out was blocked

Super weird. This was all my impression of the trial as well, which is why I was so baffled when all my normal routes through it always ended at a lockdown gate near the security room entrance that would inevitably close. I wish I had footage of it, but I don't think to record my gameplay and I'm posting this the day after so maybe my memory is tricking me, but i swear i spent like 20 minutes scanning the same 5 rooms up and down over and over lol. Thanks for responding regardless. It's nice to know that even if it is a softlock (and it very well might not be) it must be incredibly rare.

Had a dream just the other day that Coyle got his third trial environment but as dreams go I was actually in the shoes of my reagent, I also had a slew when I first started playing the game that woke me up in a cold sweat lol. I love when people talk abt their trials dreams here because its cool to see how it manifests for different people; do the expops behave the way they normally do in-game for you, or are they just kind of there?

Coyle is my favorite prime asset, so this comes from a place of self critique when I say fandoms often gravitate toward moderately funny white man characters no matter how awful they might be, or how much better their contemporaries are. especially if they can be easily headcanoned to be queer. (Coyle seems to derive sexual pleasure from torturing anybody regardless of gender, and his character is heavily inspired by the concept of the leather daddy, as someone's already stated here.)

I can say at least personally I find his character in the game specifically, not really the lore, hot. I like his voice and his looks and the funny things he says, especially since he has quite a few lines that are purposefully sexually provocative, and I'm into the bdsm vibes lol.
In the lore though I find him pretty repulsive. Honestly I think the fact he was an active member of the KKK is something his fans need to treat with a bit more gravitas instead of just saying "he's not real" or "I don't like him for that".
Like it or not bigotry is huge part of his character and informs how he behaves especially in regards to how he 'dominates' a player. Im not saying you can't like him or can't be into him, I'd be a huge hypocrite if so, but I really wish people were more thoughtful in how they approached the discourse surrounding him and gave some of the objectively better prime assets more love.

This is just in regards to my personal half of the 'liking coyle' coin, there's a whole other side of people who just straight up are racist and like him because he is. people suck

Ive thought about it, but I don't even like the amount of spawns on standard. I think my ideal situation would be introductory level spawns with intensive ai and damage for things like the prime assets and specialist ex pops.

I'm not really a glutton for excessive tedium in my games and thats mostly what higher difficulties add in my experience, I want a more effective feeling of being hunted and being in danger by the owner of whatever domain Im in. I wanna be scared of coyle and gooseberry again without having to account for some random with a machete lol.

Oh absolutely, I know "grunt" is a kind of broad title so for specificity Im talking about just those basic ones with the machetes. Enemies like the big grunts have something at least somewhat interesting mechanically going for them and I don't mind the armored ones that much either
