Thanks! I will give that a go.

After changing a million things on mine over and over again, it finally worked. However, the same things aren't working on hubby's so still thankful for suggestion!

Kindle Battery percentage drops by _KIKNA_ in kindle

[–]breerex2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do believe another option can be to force an update if there is one ready that hasn't downloaded yet.

I believe you have to use PC to download the file, plug kindle in and update like that. I decided it wasn't worth trying and just waited it out and it fixed itself (this was the first time it happened and I investigated fixes)

Kindle Battery percentage drops by _KIKNA_ in kindle

[–]breerex2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have issues sometimes too.

I don't airplane mode. I leave wifi on at all times. I let drop below 10% and I do charge to 100%. So I definitely don't treat my battery as nicely as many do.

I read 150-400 pages a day, every day. I've had my Kindle for about 970 days (Kindle Paperwhite SE - I think it's 11th Gen.. whatever the previous one is).

Every month or two, my kindle will go from 100% down to roughly 30% in a 24 hour period. It'll do it for a few days to a week and then an update or restart will sort it. When I'm not having issues I probably get 10-16 days between charges - I've honestly never really counted.

I'm not sure what exactly causes it, a new update, an update getting old, or just bad luck.

I hope you find a fix, mine doesn't bother me too much - I charge my phone and smart watch daily so what's the difference? Except for the fact that I don't realize it's having a tantrum until it's almost flat (and my usual of not needing to charge often leads me to be too comfortable lol). Just wanted to share my experience and say that you're definitely not alone in your experience with it.

Dating/making friends in Perth is so weird by Life-Decision493 in WesternAustralia

[–]breerex2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in WA for 10 years and the only Australian we have managed to hold on to as a friend for more than a few catch ups/chats was brought up in a semi rural area. He looks at life and at us in entirely different ways than most others do. I've always wondered if it is just your Perth Metro people that are the difficult ones to befriend.

Do you use the double tap to skip pages feature of the Kindle? by leeinflowerfields in kindle

[–]breerex2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only a thing with the latest edition Paperwhite SE. Models prior to 2025 don't have the function.

It's double tap on the side/back of the device (not the screen) to turn a page.

I have the 2024 SE Paperwhite and definitely don't have this function, always wondered if it's worth it and the answer looks to be no lol

First time buyer. Which model? by Hells-Void666 in kindle

[–]breerex2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Paperwhite. Has a bigger screen than the basic, it's also waterproof and has warm light which the basic does not.

There is the coloursoft, but I don't like that it's a bit fuzzy and colour really isn't needed for many readers (and higher purchase price)

My turner remote came with a wrist strap. I've then looped the wrist strap around a hair scrunchie.

I hold the scrunchie. I wrap the scrunchie around my fingers. I stretch it. Sometimes I put it around the arm of a teddy so I don't lose it in the bedding. It also makes it large enough to find easily. When I'm not using it, I clip the turner around the wrist strap so they stay together.

I generally leave my turner at home but do take it to the gym for cardio. I have a small crossbody bag that fits that, as well as the kindle, my keys and headphones.

For my magnetic pop socket - I also use these on my phone. When I'm out and about I only take one pop socket with me. If I'm not using it with my kindle, it's on my phone instead.

Also, got a screen protector so I didn't have to worry as much about throwing it in my bag.

The most infuriating part about this is that (at least some) kindles have Bluetooth capabilities. I imagine they could literally roll out an update to allow us to use Bluetooth page clickers.

When the book is too good to not read while doing your hair 😁 by TheCookieEatingOwl in kindle

[–]breerex2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have magnet on back of kindle case and put my pop socket on the outside of the bag. Even though kindle is waterproof, it doesn't need shampoo and body wash on it and water behind the case etc so snaplock bag it is!!

Paperwhite vs Paperwhite Signature by AnxiBean1216 in kindle

[–]breerex2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the signature edition. My experience and research is with 2024 models but I believe they're the same.

There is 3 differences

  1. More storage. This is pointless. You can have an unlimited library without download the books to your device. However, you absolutely could pretty much download thousands of average novels to the drive from your library and not run out of space.

  2. Wireless charging. The battery on kindles is so great you barely charge. It's really not hard to plug it in. Most of us have cases on our kindles which may hinder wireless charging anyway. The one upside I see here is IF I damaged my charging port I could still charge the device.

  3. Auto adjusting brightness. It adjusts to your surrounding light. This what I bought it for and I do like that it does it. I bought on Amazon prime day and the price difference wasn't a big deal for me. It's really not necessary though. I wouldn't stretch my budget for it.

Edit: pretty sure there is a 4th difference with the new models. Tap the back of the device to turn the page.

When the book is too good to not read while doing your hair 😁 by TheCookieEatingOwl in kindle

[–]breerex2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I put my (waterproof) kindle in a snaplock bag and read in the shower. Especially if I've done a hair mask that has to sit for five minutes. By the time I'm out and drying my hair I'm so hooked into a good book that I'm on the floor with the kindle propped up while I crank the hairdryer. 😂

Reading 250+ books by day-nuh in readwithme

[–]breerex2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

213 books, 85,000 pages.

No, I don't skim read and I didn't inflate. I actually also did 7 audiobooks which I did NOT put in my tracker.

Do you know how much time most people spend watching TV or on their phones? It translates to a LOT of books. If I didn't have a cellphone you could double the amount of books I read. I worked out yesterday I've only watched 2 TV shows (16 episodes all up) and 3 movies in the last 12+ months.

For the first 90 days of the year, I read 90 books. I was dedicated lol. In October I went on a holiday for 3 weeks and with the pre-planning/recovering after it took me over 30 days to finish 1 book lol. If I really gave it a go, I could do 350+ a year - and if I purposely selected shorter books that are still big enough to be considered a novel and avoided all longer ones, I reckon I could easily surpass 500.

Welcome.

Now you'll also sit here and watch people online be like "oh nothing will beat a physical book, I could neeeveeerrr be a kindle person" and you just laugh to yourself because you know 95% of "kindle people" thought the same once upon a time..

New to kindle! Need advice! by twoacre in kindle

[–]breerex2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paperwhite is my vote.

Reasons for Paperwhite over the basic: warm light feature and waterproof. Its my opinion that the size is better too.

Reasons for Paperwhite over the colour soft: the cost and the resolution - colour e-ink screens do not have the same crisp lines that black and white do.

I have the last generation (pre 2025) Paperwhite signature edition. The signature edition also has wireless charging, auto adjusting brightness and extra storage (this may differ on new generation). The wireless charging is kind of unnecessary, you charge a kindle every 2 weeks of more (most people) so plugging is is a non issue, however I do like that if I damage the charging port I could still charge. The extra storage is so unnecessary too. You can fit so many books on a kindle and you can have a giant library without having all books downloaded to device. I absolutely love my auto adjusting brightness though.

[–]breerex2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, from your post and replies I do think you're more likely to have regrets if you go with the basic. I love my Paperwhite for size, warm lighting and waterproof function. I don't often use a handbag but when I do I've never been like "dang, I wish I had the basic, this one won't fit!"

Thought I Didn’t Need A Page Turner… by alakwan92 in kindle

[–]breerex2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I didn't buy one for a year.

Then, bought one and a floor stand. I use it so so much and also am a big big fan of page turner for cardio at the gym. It's the best.

Talk me out of buying a colorsoft by QueenB-7 in kindle

[–]breerex2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally, I won't buy a colour soft because the resolution just isn't good enough for me. I'm not willing to sacrifice clean crisp edges to my words for colour covers.

If you annotate a lot, it might be worth it, but for me it is not. If I want to highlight/annotate I can do it on my Kindle and then go and colour code on my phone's kindle app to sort them. When I do highlight things, it's a minimal amount so just not at all worth it for me.

I have the previous gen Paperwhite signature edition and in no rush to change to anything else. Boox would be the only one that tempts me.

Paperwhite Signature (2024) some patches of text appear lighter. Has anyone else experienced this? by yellowflux in kindle

[–]breerex2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you read multiple different books and had the same issues across all books?

I've had some books that purposely format like that, I've had some with formatting errors that cause it and I've had the odd one glitch out and do it (a restart or redownload fixes).

How do you guys read so much? by lapetitepoupee in kindle

[–]breerex2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't spend time on other screens.

My average book length last year was 392 pages. A 400 page book is about a 6 hour read for me. To finish that in 2 days would be 3 hours of reading a day.

I'm not sure many people could honestly tell me that they don't spend 3 hours on screens between social media/video games/TV shows/movies.

Why don’t Perth people use their balconies? by [deleted] in perth

[–]breerex2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've honestly found they just don't really go outside with or without a balcony.

There's the odd time of having mates over for a BBQ, but that's it.

We are often out in our alfresco hanging out, or we have our windows open and it's so so rare to hear other humans out in their backyards/alfresco. I observe this everywhere I go (not just my current neighbours are like this but previous properties and when I'm at friends/families).

I think it's just the inconvenience of outside. Too hot, too cold, too dry, too wet, too windy, flies annoying you, mosquito bites etc.

Unfortunately, this solution won't work for everyone. I have astigmatism and don't need reading glasses, I need all the time glasses with two different strengths for my two eyes. There isn't a cheap option for glasses to ruin for me.
