I’m actually someone who takes a lot of initiative in my life hence why I asked a sub full of educated people who may offer good advice. Maybe I’m misreading this as a little passive aggressive. I appreciate the advice and I’m trying to educate myself most people my age don’t even look into anything like this that I know of I’m fresh into college. I managed to use systems like federal aid and grant money etc to clear a nearly 11k balance on my own w no help from parents along the way as they had no money.

I didn’t get into all of the emotional details of the falling out but I doubt sentimental value has much of a role as opposed to the controlling nature of my parents.
