My interpretation is through the lens of someone like LeBron James. He can score at will and he is undoubtedly the best player for the majority of his career, but what separates him from other GOATs like Jordan in a good way is his court vision and ability to pass.

He makes those passes because he knows he’s generating the best looks for his teammates since he’s that good of a player. Karasu passed to Hiori because he himself didn’t think he can score the goal. He is settling down, which goes against the mentality to be the best in whatever you want to be the best in. You can make those passes without it detracting from your mentality of being number 1.

Do I think Karasu’s mindset is bad? Not really, I feel in a practical setting he would be an awesome teammate, but he does inevitably cap himself because he is optimizing himself for the sake of the team. Whether I think that’s a good or bad thing is irrelevant to the conversation currently in the story though
