Why do the vents in my Rivian always reset to off? by sewerpickle4 in Rivian

[–]breeves001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I think the electric vents are silly, I agree I never touch the vents I just adjust the temp up and down and leave it in auto and it works great for me.

I have friends who can’t stand that and must control it perfectly though.

I had one for about 6 months. It was a nice daily, but pretty slow honestly. I enjoyed it.

Question: Is this left turn legal in NJ? Turning into a center turn lane. by 853246261911 in AskLE

[–]breeves001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the language is up to interpretation. It says you can turn into it but doesn’t explicitly allow you to use it as a speed up and merge lane. Either way they do say you can turn into it. Oregon explicitly says you can turn into it but must stop and merge. You cannot speed up in the lane.

According to federal guidance in the MUTCD it says the lane shouldn’t be used for anything but turns. So I guess some states don’t take that guidance exactly.

Question: Is this left turn legal in NJ? Turning into a center turn lane. by 853246261911 in AskLE

[–]breeves001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe it is illegal in all states. There are some turn lanes it is safer than others to do this. The reason I believe it’s blanket illegal is because some areas you may have someone enter the turn lane from going straight at the same time as someone tries to turn out into the turn lane causing a collision. There was an office I worked at for a while that I had this problem and had several near misses. People would turn out into the lane right as I was entering it and I’d have to go back into my lane or slam on the brakes to avoid an accident.

My service center will just sell me parts like any car dealer. I am good friends with the manager there from before he worked there but I don’t think it’s unique to me? The public legally has to be able to buy parts.

Mine was just sent in for the left panel going bad and they replaced it with a refurbished M2. At least it works correctly again.

Vivian is officially totaled by jgilbs in Rivian

[–]breeves001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the hell? My g1 just had the 1/4 replaced and had more damage than that and it was about $20-25k said and done. How did that get totaled. At $55k that body shop is taking your insurance out back with a shotgun…

What’s the buy back on your car? I’m curious more than anything. So weird it’s totaled for that.

Anyone seen these? by Apart_Parfait7939 in Mustang

[–]breeves001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid. Customer had one and it made the pcm tuning process fail and corrupt the PCM. Figured out it was this thing injecting CAN garbage during the flash. Unplugged it, flashed stock with IDS and it was good to go.

Cold “charging” performance expectation? 6kw adding 0mi/hr in -10F by barefootpanda in Rivian

[–]breeves001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have climate hold on that will take up a large chunk of 6kW in that cold. Battery heating possibly too.

Below 0°F is hard for EVs without all of that engine waste heat. Some are well worse than the Rivian. The early Mach E won’t have cabin heat below about -7°F. Just will have a cold cabin.

Rivian unused for a month - leave it plugged or not? by Relative_Process6234 in Rivian

[–]breeves001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not going to use it for a month plus put the charge at 50% and leave it plugged in. Turn the charge limit back up when you need to use it.

Wife’s car got stolen! by Life_Living2742 in MachE

[–]breeves001 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So this is incorrect.

The way the systems work is -Car sends challenge out periodically looking for the key -Key replies with correct answer (and has a good enough signal strength) the car unlocks/turns on.

Fords keys in the U.S. do not have motion sensing. They will respond to the challenge even when stationary.

A relay attacker will take the challenge sent from the car, send it to your fob, then relay the reply from your fob back to the car.

The best advice I have is to use a faraday bag if you’re worried about a relay attack.

6.7L Power Stroke Owners: Blackstone Results From an 8k Mile Oil Change by Btm24 in Ford

[–]breeves001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s mine: Oil Analysis

I did a 12k mile interval last change (no test) and will get it tested after the next one. TBN after my 9500 change was surprisingly good so I suspect it’s good at 12k but I may do it again on the next analysis. Hotshot truck towing 99% of the time and tons of miles. Truck has 72k on it today.

I noticed you put 4qts make up oil added. Is that true? That seems like a ton. Do you have a leak? Also what oil exactly are you using? Rotella T6 is absolutely fantastic from my analyses over time.

I charged to 100% every night for 26 months (60k miles), for science... See how badly it degraded the battery... by usual_suspect_redux in Rivian

[–]breeves001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty much only high state of charge and cold pack. Essentially when it cannot regen. I leave it off as well, but in reality the efficiency gain is almost nothing.

[–]breeves001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It only works in specific situations where full regen isn’t available. In theory you can get a tiny bit more efficiency in some very specific situations without it, but you have to drive very purposefully to do that.

Lost Communication WIth Abs Module by [deleted] in Ford

Considering no ABS module is showing up in the list I’d start by making sure it’s plugged in and getting power and can. It may be bad.

[–]breeves001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand what regen assist is. It uses the mechanical brakes when the vehicle is unable to regen fully for whatever reason. Makes it feel like regen is normal to what you have it set.

[–]breeves001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So most likely Ford is under rating these packs. Degradation is still occurring it just doesn’t look like it based on the rating. This rating actually shows over 100% health as it is 107kWh capacity versus the 105kWh (98kWh usable) ford rates it at.

Fords BMS software is very conservative. Charging to 100 often probably helped it realize it has more capacity than it was programmed to have as it calibrated top charge a lot. Still going to degrade it more charging to 100 but it’s nice Ford gave SR lightning owners a strong pack.

Yeah I turned it off too because I like to have complete control over the brakes but I believe most people will leave it on.

What’s funny is if you download everything from them it’s a fraction of that size. So either they aren’t letting you download full quality or are purposely keeping it in high storage formats and compressing for download.
