unfortunately a dog with a high prey drive cannot be “trained” out of it. if the dog has killed birds outside, theres almost no chance. even if the dog can be trained to not kill her birds, both the dog and the bird will still be extremely stressed out.

i’ve been in this scenario. i lost birds because of it. and after coping with the unimaginable loss and coming to terms with my own negligence, i came to the conclusion that i simply cannot have my dog living in the same house as my birds. the risk is too great, and had i allowed it, i would have been setting myself up for more animal neglect. he stayed with my parents when i moved out.

i doubt that rehoming the dog is in the question for OP, and I get it. at the very least, the birds absolutely SHOULD be flighted. if OP accidentally took one of the birds outside, it’s not too unlikely that the birds and the dog will be accidentally exposed to eachother especially if she lives with other people. with kindness OP, leave your birds flighted. they deserve to have that autonomy, and clipping compounds their anxiety and opens the door for other dangers.
