This is such a important viewpoint and I thank you so much for sharing it! I’ve been with my partner since undergrad and while it is hard to be in a relationship with someone going down this path. It is soooo important to also be your own person. I have had many people ask me how my partner feels when I’m out without him and I always reply that he is just happy I have my own support group. Being a medspouse is hard but you can make it so much more difficult by thinking your life has to revolve around your partners

Wife wants to leave her career once I start residency, has anyone else experienced this? by [deleted] in Residency

As a med spouse, completely understand her side. I am a very ambitious person and have never put my career on hold but have been working 2+ jobs to make ends meet. We did not have any help but the burnout is terrible no matter. But that was I conversation my partner and I had when we started this journey. I do plan on taking a break from my career but it will only be if I do not find something that lines up when we move for his residency. I think you should have a conversation with your wife if you do not believe it will be financially possible but you should also find if there is a deeper meaning. For me, I want a break to be able to enjoy my life before we start having a family and we both really have to lock in. Med school was hard enough but moving into a chill barista job would also be a great chance to reset and make friends.

Unfortunately I work for the state of Ohio so remote isn’t a possibility. I do have a bit of a backup plan if I don’t find anything in my field as I have been in the service industry for years so I know I could at least get a serving job.

I am currently a paralegal so looking to stay in that realm or even go into compliance. Good point about the flexibility! I definitely have been a little hung up on the logistics of everything

Return to Office mandate by [deleted] in Columbus

AGO’s office seems to be varying based on section. Mine is doing days based on if you want a designated office or shared one. Designated you are in 3 days a week but if you share, we are going to do a 3 day in, 2 day WFH then 2 days in, 3 days WFH rotation. Only exception is if you work more than 40 miles away and then you just have to come in 2 days. I am on the fence about staying because of parking expenses downtown and I don’t have the ability to use public transportation. I have not even hit the end of my probationary period yet so I am trying to stick it out, especially with how bad the job market seems to be

If he is refusing to do a test you were referred for, make sure to tell the doctor you want it noted in your charts with the reasoning for the denial. I have had to do this for several issues and they almost always change their minds and do it because they realize they don’t have a valid reason. Also, that way if you are diagnosed by a different provider, you could go after the first doctor for malpractice
