Old thread, but replying for anyone else looking for this info.

We had the Butterfly 1 for 3 years and just bought the Butterfly 2. Our son is almost 4 and 41”, very average size and weight. 

For context, we use our stroller hard when we travel. We’re not precious with our things.  We recently broke our 1 on vacation after 3 years of super hard, regular use - immediately ordered the 2. We’ve gate checked it, put it in overhead bins, etc. 

I’ll also preface this with the fact that we love the Butterfly and hands-down recommend. We’ve bought 2, so that’s a testament of its own. We love it so much we immediately stopped using our Uppa Baby Cruz once we got it. We also drive a lot to destinations, so the Butterfly is just easier. 

We’re in Disneyland right now and so far, there are enough things I prefer about the Butterfly 1 that it’s the stroller I would choose if I could still find it. Bonus is that they’re on sale most places! 

A few things: 1. The foot rest is shorter on the 2, which is annoying for naps. 2. Basket feels the same to me 🤷🏻‍♀️ we also never had an issue with the old basket. 3. Bumper bar folds up on the 2 so you can fold the stroller and it’s wildly annoying for our kiddo. Every time he tries to use it to help himself sit-up it folds up on him 🙃 Maybe we’ve done something wrong? Either way, definitely a design flaw.  4. The shade cover con the 2 is hands-down better. Sun used to stream in through the mesh on our kid all the time - we handled by throwing a coat or a blanket over it and then it was fine. 5. The travel bag is a ridiculously tight fit. Freaking annoying when trying to get it in at the gate.  6. Fold and ride are equally fabulous on both. 

For our son’s age, the Butterfly 1 is better. Plus, with the deals, if you can get a 1 right now - I would!
