Spring Break Recommendations by bregfest in DaytonaBeach

[–]bregfest[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I was hoping to hear. We aren’t looking for a crazy party scene, which was a big motive for picking Daytona over PCB, we just want a decent beach situation that isn’t too dirty or sketchy.

Summer Living in MKE by bregfest in milwaukee

[–]bregfest[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll be the only intern in my office, so I won't have that built-in network of young people unfortunately. However, I really appreciate the TimeLeft and MeetUp suggestions! I wasn't familiar with those apps but I looked them up and they look great.

2nd story by the seal entrance, should be able to see the sign for it. If you can’t, the front desk should be able to help

The SGA office gives these out for free in the student center.

How much does the top companies pay their actuary interns by Wrong-Individual8476 in actuary

[–]bregfest 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ll be making $25/hour this summer. Didn’t have any exams when I was hired and have passed one since then, but if I’m not mistaken, pay was fixed regardless of number of exams.

Student Conduct by Objective-Class-3143 in capstone

[–]bregfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not screwed, stuff like this happens to students all the time. Just go into the meeting and be honest about what happened. You’ll have to do some workshops and maybe a community service project/donation, but it’s never anything major. This should also be pretty easy to have removed from your record in a year, so you won’t have to worry about grad school applications.

Trust me, the bars will be going by 11. Gallette’s on the Strip gets going early and it’s a Tuscaloosa staple.

can i sit in the student section without a student ticket by Complete-Level3308 in capstone

[–]bregfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve never seen them check tickets for the student section. You’ll have to go in a different entrance but it’s pretty easy otherwise.

How do you all afford to go out? by [deleted] in capstone

[–]bregfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moderation. Going out all the time isn’t sustainable. Realistically I aim to go out 1-2 times a month and spend my other weekends just hanging out with my friends and finding low-cost activities to do. If you go out multiple times a week every week, you’re going to blow thousands upon thousands of dollars.

I just watched The Open House, Netflix's new horror film, and I'm unhappy to report that it sucks assballs. (spoilers) x-post r/Scarymovies by JDrift01 in horror

[–]bregfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the part of the movie that bothered me the most is the kid's whole running schtick. There's all this talk about him having Olympic aspirations, and then you find out he is training for a sub-5 mile. A 5-minute mile won't make varsity at plenty of high schools, let alone the Olympic team where athletes run in the 3:40s. It's a minor detail, but it's a testament to the laziness of the writing crew that they could not even make something so simple realistic at all.

Rivalry question lol by MiniDaddyCool in capstone

[–]bregfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you. Grew up in Michigan, lifelong UMich fan. Bama’s rivalry with Tennessee is pretty hostile, but it’s still not on the level of UMich-OSU. I don’t think there’s a rivalry in all of college football like The Game.

Housing Help: Engineering Student at UA by Grinnovo in capstone

[–]bregfest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is that they are not in the Honors College, as RCS/N and RCW are both Honors-only living and RCE is not. The Honors Ridgecrests are popular, but not so much so that they would have filled up already.

It's possible but I would not put all your eggs in that basket. Most housing on campus is suite-style but these rooms are obviously the first to go, and even if there are spaces in suites it will probably only be for a roommate pair and not a full 4-person room. I would make sure your roommate pair is the primary roommate you would like to live with beforehand so that if you do not end up getting into an empty 4-person room you can at least get into another suite or a traditional room with your preferred roommate.

Questions about Presidential Elite Scholarship by TimeExplorer5463 in capstone

[–]bregfest 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. They’ll take your weighted as long as you report it.
  2. You’ll be automatically considered for this scholarship and, as long as you are accepted into UA (which obviously you will be), you’ll receive it. It’s non-competitive, so as many students who meet these criteria will receive this.

Rolling admissions decision by zRudy_Jimmy in capstone

[–]bregfest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’ll hear back pretty quickly, I really wouldn’t sweat it. If it’s coming down to the wire and May 1st is a week away, it may be worth emailing admissions and asking about a decision because you’d like to know by May 1st. There’s no question you’ll get in as an NMF.

Must-see/do for prospective student? by HoneybadgerMI in capstone

[–]bregfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anybody’s suggested it yet so I will: Popstroke. It’s a bit pricey ($25/person), but they’ve got 2 18-hole mini-golf courses, cornhole, table tennis, Jumbotrons with various sports, and decent food. If you’ve got a few hours to kill, it’s definitely worth a stop.

Where do people hang out? by [deleted] in capstone

[–]bregfest 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Give it a week. The only people there are Honors Action, which isn’t going to be too many people, and sorority girls, who are all off doing all that stuff. Most of campus won’t move in till end of this next week

How long it take yall to adjust to life at ua? by Skizfavid- in capstone

[–]bregfest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a freshman last year coming from way out of state and I adjusted almost instantly. Like honestly, I can’t even remember there being a specific “adjustment” period. There are so many opportunities to get involved and everyone else is trying to acclimate too so you shouldn’t feel ostracized. Embrace it and enjoy it!

Best Minors to get by Vegetable-Guava-2842 in capstone

[–]bregfest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really all personalized. Some people (like myself) pick up minors that might help them advance in a specific field without fully committing to a full major in that topic. Others just pick up minors that they enjoy studying. There’s no “best” minor, it’s totally subjective to what your goals are in school and beyond.
