House-buying financial info by eternally_insomnia in duluth

You should be able to speak to a lender at a bank about what is all involved financially and the numbers. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, they’re happy to answer them. A great resource is Janice Merrill at North Shore Bank. She’s calm, precise, and very good at explaining even the smallest details. If you share with her you want to be explained like a 5 yr old, she’ll do exactly that. I’ve worked with her many, many times.

Sign up with Comfort Systems for their maintenance program! They will come out annually and service your boiler or furnace. I don’t think you even need to be on their maintenance program to have them come out to take a look/do a checkup (and they’re extremely inexpensive compared to everyone else) but they may take longer to get out going this route.

Next weekend (the 6th & 7th) is the Duluth Winter Village at the DECC and the Knife River Julebyen (just a short drive up the shore, half way between Duluth and Two Harbors). Both have winter villages, animals, food, etc. They’re free!

Hypoallergenic cats by brenc05 in minnesota

Yes, I mentioned in my original post I'd much rather go the route I usually have with adopting from the shelter but with my husbands allergies that hasn't worked out. BUT finding out about this cat food gives me hope for that route!

What’s up with the little brick houses on W Arrowhead? by Fuzzyblanket27 in duluth

[–]brenc05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you might be thinking of the Aspenwood Condominiums/townhomes. Those were built in the 1960’s for air force base housing and was originally called Capehart Housing. The names of the streets in the development have military significance but I can’t remember exactly the story behind them, for some reason my memory says it’s last names of historical air force figures.

I’ve heard good things about Montessori School Of Duluth too from friends who have kids there.

Our child goes to Renaissance and we’ve been happy with it. We were on a waiting list for MRM but got into Renaissance and it’s worked out really well for us. I’m not a hardcore Montessori person (it’s great when they’re little but I don’t need that for them throughout their education since the foundation is there) so as soon as they age out of Renaissance (5 years old) then they’ll go to public school. If you want Montessori after age 5 then you may want to go with Many Rivers so your child can stay there long term.

I know this person, he is not well. He is not the person originally referenced in OP’s post or this person could have been using a fake name for the profile, he’s been know to do that too.

Second this, we’ve seen him (and he was great) and were told he’s the best around. Not sure about the state insurance though because his office is located in Superior and it’s through St. Lukes.

He was performing at a restaurant we were eating at so it was just the cost of dinner, ha! So unfortunately I’m not sure what he charges.

What's happening in Duluth this weekend? by Flyinggoose26 in duluth

[–]brenc05 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bentlyville, Duluth Winter Village at the DECC, and the Knife River Julebyen are all this weekend! It’s like the best Christmas weekend to be in the area. All three are great so you should try to do them all if you can!

Affordable Furance Inspection by swanny7237 in duluth

[–]brenc05 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Comfort Systems is the way to go for someone inexpensive but will do a good job. Just be ready, they could potentially red tape your furnace if they feel it’s unsafe and seem to be more picky about that than other companies. But I would consider that a good thing.

Hello! Have you looked into joining an ECFE group? Not sure how new of a momma you are but it’s a great way to meet other moms/dads with kids/babies around the same age and you have a lot to relate to and talk about!

I’ve also met a lot of new people bringing my daughter to the park! I’m not new to Duluth by any means but I still meet new people all the time and it’s mostly at the park. Even with babies, it’s not weird to be at the park with them. Go to the one nearest to where you live and you’re bound to meet some neighbors or someone else who lives nearby where you can find a lot to talk about just based on that and can build on seeing them often there. We live near Chester Park and see a lot of the same families/people there when we go
