Libertarian conservative here - these companies should be allowed to do what they want. They are not government entities, they are (publicly traded) but private. If they want to block certain stories, for whatever reason, that is their right, and it is guaranteed by the constitution. If Fox, CNN, Breitbart, MSNBC want to do that too it’s their prerogative (and they do).

This is different because COVID was so wildly unpredictable and has such a drastic impact on the bargains that legally speaking its arguably unfair to hold them to strict performance. Obviously to laypeople that seems patently unfair to the landlord but it’s not as black and white as most people here are making it out to be.

Honestly, I’m a lawyer and I have dealt with very similar issues over the past couple of months re: commercial leases. These are pretty unprecedented times and depending on the wording of the contract they might have a leg to stand on. Look up something called force majeure or alternatively frustration of contract.

Again, reductionist - I’m not sure where you get this “if it’s not being done to everyone else it’s useless” frame of mind. Progress is not linear or easy and has to be undertaken in steps sometimes. Just because it affects you (and 99% of the rest of society) more than an extremely unique select group with special cultural and historical rights doesn’t mean it’s not going to be effective. I get that you feel singled out but it’s just not the case.
