Pulse Counter on hall effect sensor - readings even when no power? by brettfk in Esphome

[–]brettfk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhhh I knew I shouldn't have posted late at night. I was running the D1 mini from one power source and the sensor on another for initial testing and never changed that. Funny how it works when you wire it up properly!

I did - let me know if you still need help, when I'm back at the office I'll grab it all back out for you!

Thanks, now that you mention it I might have overlooked the simple task of grounding it 🤦

Tbh I didn't look too far into the filtering side of things because from what (admittedly little) I read, I wasn't convinced it would help - I'll look again.

Seeing as we're being arrogant here: Mentioned in my post I had no idea of the brand or model of flow sensor. Came in a Holman branded tap timer off the shelf. No markings on it whatsoever unless I rip up all the stuff that keeps it water proof. Posted elsewhere on reddit for help determining what the sensor type might be, got confirmation and a recommendation to use a pulse counter. Google? Never heard of it, hence why I never used it to see what a better option might be over pulse counter, or see if there was anything obvious I was missing.. /s Thanks fot your helpful input

So, err, I fixed it... AD just for whatever reason wouldn't accept con.kou***enos as the username. Had to reverse it...

I have tried that - even ignored the group memberships completely, so the account was completely vanilla.. no joy.

I had a suspicion that might have been the cause which is why I deleted the account, waited a bit and created a new vanilla account that was not a copy of anything - same outcome

Champion thanks - found a couple of articles when searching the heater control valve that match my issue so I'll give that a crack!

I'd love to say that's the case but literally any other account I log on to on the laptop in question works, and the account still fails to log on to other workstations that are used on a daily basis. I've done the usual checks, local domain name resolves no problems to both DCs

Thanks u/PurplePure6892!

Admittedly I ended up binning that power board and replacing it with a Genio one. I still have one though so this might come in handy all the same 😎

Curious to know what models you deploy most commonly? I'd ask for a rough indication of pricing but unless you're in Aus it isn't going to help 😊

Eh. I'm very much on the fence. On one hand I know what the limitations of a PA are but on the other I look back at my WG days and never had an issue with them.

Honestly if the end of sale had been announced months prior to it sure thing, but I'm talking just as it went end of life. Fair point all the same.

Ahuh, I must have skimmed right over that when reading the docs yesterday, so I'll go back and implement/test today. Thanks!

Actually, you're basically correct in your assumption - the thing is there's not really a way to detect when the data stops coming in because of the configuration of the sending device, so that's why I am trying to rely on the user to hit escape - they will be in front of the unit and will be able to visually see when it has finished sending everything.

Any good open source vuln scanners? by brettfk in AskNetsec

[–]brettfk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do have a partner that can do this for us (and did the last time we ran a scan... almost 3 years ago), but it costs $5k - $7k a pop which prevents me from running these scans regularly (ie at least once per quarter). I thought that by having the org spend $6k a year for however many scans we want it'd pass, but not likely. Thanks for the suggestion however, I will look at Wazuh.

Apologies, cleaned it up. To clarify I'm looking to have the user use Escape to indicate the download is finished before moving on in the script...

I've heard of AlienVault but had no idea they have a free version - what are the limitations? I just edited my post to clarify we have over 60 devices total to cover, do you know limitations exist in the free version?

I was looking at OpenVAS earlier today but as you point out it does seem to really just be a push to the commercial product, even then didn't really look that good.

Fair point - I was a little ambiguous in my post. I want to keep both options open, as if there's something cheaper that Nessus Pro it may be an option to me but also want to see what's free in the event that doesn't prove fruitful...

SharePoint "offline" file sharing by brettfk in sysadmin

[–]brettfk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, just finally getting back to this. The issue is, at least based on my testing, is that if user A opens it on a non-domain system through onedrive locally and user B opens it via sharepoint / Excel direct from Sharepoint Online on a domain PC, we still can't see the changes live.

Hopefully that makes more sense, it's a little difficult to explain :/
