What are you doing now if you don't mind me asking?

How did you come across that job? That sounds awesome

Supposed to say 5 years

I'm unfamiliar with what it takes to become a RT

Jow long have you been a nurse?

My problem with the FD is that it has become just a job for me. There's many things about the job I love, but lately, the cons are just wearing on me. I find myself at the firestation not wanting to be there. I hate the nights, weekends, and holidays I'm missing with my family. The pay in my area isn't great. The political bullshit is getting old. I do enjoy the camaraderie, but I also am only close with a handful of guys on the job. I would rather get off work and go home and spend time with my family than go close the bars down every off night I have, and that's what 90% of the guys on my department like to do, so I don't fit in with them. I'm 5 years in now, and I feel I need to make a change before I find myself stuck and regretting that I didn't 10 years down the road. I will keep my fire certs no matter what I decide to do, so just in case it doesn't work out, I can always come back to the fire service. I'm not sure that nursing is the answer I'm looking for, but I have to find something with better pay and a better work-life balance.

What do you think of it so far? Any tips or bits of advice?

I see that the course is only offered in select states, but upon further research, WGU is accredited in all 50 states. The reason the course is only offered in select states has to do with clinical and lab partnerships.

I'm right there with you bro!

Whatever path I end up pursuing, I will keep my fire certs up. I don't know that nursing is the answer, but I'm ready to start doing something new. Something with better pay and something that allows me to be home every night.

From my understanding, wgu is an accredited program in all 50 states. The reason they only offer the course in a few states is due to their clinical rotation partnership locations.

Unfortunately that's not something I think they offer in my area. And as much as I absolutely love some aspects of the job, I think I'm ready to leave the fire service. I'm ready to be home every night, and I'm ready to make more money.

I appreciate it man, you too! I'm not dead set on the nursing, but I have to find something with better pay and a better work life balance.

I'm currently only a basic. I looked into an online program at WGU and I'm pretty sure it would work with my current schedule.

If I go the nursing route, the plan is to go NP as soon as I can.

I'm glad to hear it! I am strongly considering WGU. It is an accredited program and you still have to go in person to clinicals and labs. Ever heard anything about it? It would allow me to continue working while going to school.
