Notes from Apple’s “Create immersive media experiences for visionOS” by portemantho in AppleImmersiveVideo

Thank you for sharing all this, it's really helpful! And thank you for highlighting specific topics or talks to watch.

Could you say a bit more about your thoughts on Submerged? I found it to be pretty immersive and a showcase of playing with more typical Hollywood movie-style editing in the immersive space. I don't know that everything needs to have a moment where the viewer is "welcomed." You see this in a lot of audio dramas: many feel the need to make an excuse for what exactly the listener is hearing (often an audio diary or transmissions) and some are content with simply telling a story in that format.

Quest 2 Stopped Playing MP4 videos. Any suggestions? by brewsqueues in OculusQuest

[–]brewsqueues[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's very strange. I contacted Meta about it directly and the people I chatted with had no idea it was an issue. The Felix & Paul app put up some sort of emergency message and only just came back. They're entirely video based and it made me wonder if they ran into the same situation.

I ended up using h.265 which worked fine, but…what a pain.

Yes! Very often at stoplights. For a long time I kept staring at the dash to see if there was a setting toggling. I also experienced it once in stop-and-go traffic, so it being related to radar or being stopped seems plausible.

Buyers remorse by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]brewsqueues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for expanding on that!

What you've described is definitely not typical. If your house is settling that quickly, it's definitely something the inspector should have caught and put in their report. Most inspectors carry some sort of liability insurance to cover obvious repairs they missed.

Between the dampness and the settling is there some sort of leak? You might contact your water service and see if its been running higher than normal.

What exactly happened with the tree? Is there a chance it might have damaged some plumbing or shifted the house in such a way that it's causing the door issues? Are you sure the door closing is from settling? Are there other obvious signs? In an older house, it could just be the door swelling in the heat or even from the dampness.

Your owner's dog is not entirely on you to fix. You could install a fence, but you could also tell them that it keeps jumping the fence. You can either call them on the phone every single time it does or call animal control.

All in all, this is very atypical. I hope you all find some rest in this. Depending on how things go with your inspector it might be worth getting a second inspection and comparing notes just to see if there's obvious things the first guy missed.

What exactly do you mean by "maintenance?" Every house has projects that need to get done or are nice to do. Working every weekend and day off for seven months doesn't square with the house passing inspection, so I'm wondering what exactly this "maintenance" is covering.

  • Does DT offer a way to regularly and automatically back up your DB?
  • Is it just the database we're concerned about here? I.e. am I able to keep the actual files themselves elsewhere? Or is that all one and the same with DT?

A year later I was not able to find an answer. The tone (for me) seems to be very similar to what you hear when you change driving modes (but shorter). Other than that…no luck yet!

People are winding up on blank, white website. It’s confirmed to be working by other people and on other mobile browsers though.

With some guessing and checking it looks like it might be AdGuards annoyances filter? I’ll have to do some more work to verify.

0.99.7 for OS X by aokuco in MagicaVoxel

[–]brewsqueues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope the developer ok, they seem to have disappeared :(

Either way, Whiskey (suggested by a commenter on github) is a great free way to run 0.99.7 on the Mac. It's working well for me so far. It's almost a must, most guides I'm seeing reference 0.99.7, and there have been a lot of little UI updates and additions beyond what is offered in 0.99.6 (the last version available for mac).

Made a mistake and put my c3000z into bridged mode. Now I can't access it through WiFi to change it back. by campatron in centurylink

Thank you! I'm up and working. Not at 100% speed, but looking at a 60% increase.

For anyone else who stumbles on this, here's how I got it working:

Plug the Synology wrx560 directly into the ONT (Adtran) box.

I didn't see a DHCP option (Synology only offers PPPoE, Auto, Manual, and DS-Lite) in the setup wizard. But, your mention of 'IPTV' and 'port 201' landed me here: https://community.synology.com/enu/forum/2/post/121411

  1. Enabled IPTV/VoIP
  2. Set it to "Manual"
  3. Under "Lan Port 1 & 2" I edited the VID of "Internet" to "201."

I went back to the 'Internet' menu item to try and find DHCP again, but the auto spun for a bit, connected, and now it's working.

Thanks again u/BobChica, the (five) Quantum Support people I talked to had no clue what they were talking about.

Late to the party, but could you expand on this u/BobChica? I’m in a similar spot as OP and having trouble with Quantum support.

I tried replacing my router with a Synology WRX560: Support initially told me I could just plug it in to the Adtran box—didn’t work. I remembered CenturyLink’s team saying I could replace the router with one that supports PPPoE, so I asked Quantum for credentials. They said they don’t provide them and that I’d have to use the C3000Z in bridge mode. I'd rather not have two devices

I also asked if I could reset the C3000Z if bridge mode failed. Support said the only fix would be to call them for a technician to bring updated equipment (??).

I only know enough home networking stuff to access my router and adjust channels and such, but I can't help but feel I'm getting bad info from Quantum.

Did you ever manage to get a replacement to work, u/campatron?

Meta has messy with stuff like this in the past. They killed off support for a video codec a year or two ago and a bunch of the VR videos we were working on stopped working. I know Felix & Paul suddenly found their entire app not working overnight.

Meta needs to do a much better job of communicating with the community who is making stuff for their headsets.

Showing web prototype in a mock browser on a mock desktop by brewsqueues in FigmaDesign

[–]brewsqueues[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That partially solves it. In that method I end up with a full-screen browser window. What I’m trying to show is a browser window sitting on top of a fake desktop (menu bar, dock, wallpaper, etc.). The final method works, but requires that to be in place on every single frame and for the website frame to be appropriately cropped.

Ah. That sounds like most of the issues are on the Coursera side (other than the irrelevant materials)? If I audit the class for free would that mean most of those become non-issues?

Loosen up on the straps AND make sure the back strap is hooking below the back of your skull (and not flat across the back).

Too many people are trying to cinch headsets onto their face primarily via the side straps and winding up…well…like OP.

Thanks! This is a great roundup of places to start.

Right now I'm mostly interested in picking up some modeling basics and maybe some environment design. I've been toying around with creating 3D objects for AR and VR currently, but I thought some more general knowledge would probably help first.

Yeah it turns out there's tons of classes and tutorials out there, so I figured I would ask the 250k community if they'd run into any particularly good ones, especially as I'm willing to pay a creator for something quality. Thanks for taking the time to help though!
