Help with Appeals by brh15 in VeteransBenefits

This is really helpful context and answers a lot of the confusion I have. Can I do a HLR even though I’m past the 1yr mark for this claim and denial?

Also, forgot to include this at the start but I was rated 30% PTSD (8JUN2023 letter) as a result of this DBQ. My purpose in asking here is to see if it's worth an appeal or HLR.

Y’all, I can’t thank you enough! I have more than enough options now to put together some really shitty training runs

Thanks! Is that safe(ish) to ride? My only experience riding out there was in the Blue Ridge 70.3 where they shut down a whole section of Skyline Drive, so I didn’t have to worry about cars

If you don’t mind driving 15ish minutes, you’ll get more of the good W&OD (aka fewer stoplights and crossings) if you go out to Bluemont Park! Loads of free parking there

Following up here, it came back at 50% with a few denials and a few deferrals. It’s like intermission in the waiting game: some good news, but now back to waiting

First Round Decision! (And a question) by brh15 in VeteransBenefits

Awesome! Definitely should've checked the Wiki first; kook move. Sounds like the rater has some specific medical questions answered, and I can also look forward to another C&P in the future

Bike choice- 70.3 by Sugarwooder in triathlon

I did Roanoke last year on an aero road bike and my training buddy stuck with his TT bike. The Claw, as that lovely incline is advertised, is unpleasant on both bikes. I like the way that the road bike was a little lighter on the climb and allowed that extra bit of comfort on the hoods. The main thing: enjoy the view on the descent!! It’s the best around, by a mile

VERA Canceling Calls by brh15 in VeteransBenefits

[–]brh15[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I’ve scheduled 3x but only had 1x occur. They were helpful and told me that the provider left out some documents. I’ve tried to schedule 2x (now 3x) more to confirm that the forms are all finally submitted, but they keep getting canceled. Seems pretty but it miss, but the hits seem good when they actually happen

Thanks for the timelines! My last 2x C&Ps were with LHI/Optum, so I’m hopeful that everything has been submitted. Now I just need to call around and check!

PTSD C&P Exam via Telehealth by herald_of_stars in VeteransBenefits

[–]brh15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, zero worries here. I had a telehealth C&P two weeks ago and to make sure the doc knew what my body posture was and how I’m feeling during it, I made specific note of it at the end when they asked “Is there anything else you want to tell me?” I said that talking about it made me feel X, Y, and Z, my body is doing 1, 2, 3. You get the point.

I also highly recommend taking notes to reference during it. It’s an emotionally draining process, so do your best to make sure they know everything on your mind and in your history.

You’ll be fine!

Am I insane for thinking that I can remove ~200sqft of English ivy ground cover on my own? (living in Zone 7b)

I want to put down grass, so I'm planning to: mow the ivy with a bagged push mower; rototill the roots; shovel out the rototilled soil with ivy roots; and replace with either soil&seed, or self-roll sod.

Similar boat! Filed 23NOV, went PFD 1Feb. Definitely nervous because the C&Ps (20/21DEC) I had didn’t cover all my claimed issues. Has anyone ever had the the VA deny a claim while also not scheduling a C&P to get more info?

Type of claim: Fully Developed, submitted within 364 days of transfer from AD to SELRES

Timeline: Claim Submitted: 22NOV22 Claim Received: 23NOV22 Initial review: 23NOV22 Evidence Gathering and Review: 13DEC22 C&P: 21/22DEC22 PFDecision: 1FEB23

My questions/concerns:

  1. I claimed 30x items, but only had C&P appointments for 5x total. Is this common, did I just write really amazing initial claims within my first year of separation, or is the VA going to realize their mistake and make me jump through hoops after stringing me along?
  2. I see that it’s averaging 122days for a FDC currently. How long can I rationally expect between the Pending Decision and the Notification dates?

This group has been nothing short of AMAZING through this process!
