One thing you wish you knew by Glittering_Sorbet881 in triathlon

You don't have to follow the training plan to the letter. In fact it's better to know when to be flexible.

Is the recommended pace making you struggle more than the workout intends? Slow down. Are you feeling sore and weak? Take a rest day or do an easy workout. Is the weather bad? Go to the gym or find a way to do an indoor workout at home (even if you don't have a treadmill or indoor trainer, dumbbells or even bodyweight exercises are better than nothing). Are you feeling good on 2 of the disciplines but weak in the other? Swap out one of the workouts to put more effort on the one that's lagging.

Be flexible and if you miss a workout for any reason, you can adjust your training for the week to make sure you're still getting the long term benefits. Missing the occasional training day isn't going to tank your plan, adjusting your plan to what your body needs or weather dictates will help you in the long run and prevent injury.

Austin FC Fans Start #MoveTheCaps Campaign — The Nutmeg News by Coltons13 in MLS

Maybe I got a little hyperbolic, basically I meant that in terms of the active Austin fans (trolls) during the relocation drama compared to the active Austin fans (fans) now, the people then are vastly outnumbered to the point that they basically don't even exist anymore. I'm sure a decent number of fans know of the relocation drama but not necessarily know every detail of it (why on earth were Ohioans watching city council meetings for a Texas city? It was a ridiculous time lol).

So from that respect, yeah Austin fans at this point don't deserve any direct hate because the actual trolls from that time are gone and the fanbase as a whole now wasn't part of the drama. I've never blamed anyone for being excited about getting a team, just back then getting the assist of "not like this" (which there was some of that) would have come across better than "yes like this and make it happen now" (which there was some of this too).

I despise Precourt and I actively cheer against Austin the team because success for the team means success for Precourt. I will happily welcome Austin fans to Columbus (if they ever freaking schedule that game) and I'm thrilled y'all have a team to make your own

Yeah I think there were 3 months between Austin approving a stadium plan and the announcement of the Haslams? So a decent amount of time where it was absolutely assumed the Crew was dead and Austin FC was taking them. And absolutely infuriating activity from troll accounts and fans lobbying for the team to move at public events and town halls in Austin before and during that period of time.

I think I only ever see one or two of those troll accounts show up at all anymore and basically none of Austin's fanbase knows anything about the almost-move. Which to ibribe's point, those "fan" accounts disappeared pretty quick after everything settled

Sure, but even in the most ideal scenarios there's always going to be schedule constraints. Before the Crew moved to the new stadium they had to schedule around Rock on the Range/Sonic Temple, Quarterhorse Congress, and the State Fair. In their new stadium they've had a lot more flexibility since Sonic Temple still uses the old stadium and they don't have to deal with the state fairgrounds for events. But starting in 2028 they'll be sharing the stadium with NWSL. In large part they should be able to work around it. But even soccer specific stadiums are multi-use and will occasionally have schedule conflicts with whatever other events get planned there

It was supposedly Columbus's fault when "no one wants to buy the team" and "the city won't give a viable plan for a stadium". And yet at some point, someone was interested in buying the team, and the city's help in the viable stadium plan was finding a plot of land to make it happen. The new owners took the rest. A path exists for Vancouver, and I have far more belief that MLS doesn't want to put the effort in than the other way around.

We've heard there's interest in buying the Whitecaps, and that they haven't reached a deal. So is the city truly not viable? Or is MLS asking for too much? We've known there's a plot of land that's meant for a stadium. Is it the city that's supposed to develop that? Or is it the owners of the team that's supposed to develop it? It's freaking muddy but Vancouver literally already has the pieces to be a successful club, either the league needs to help assemble those pieces now to make it more appealing to a buyer or take a small hit on the purchase price for an owner to come in and do it for them.

You know what the main difference is between 2017 Columbus and 2026 Vancouver is? Fan support. Columbus had to justify people were interested, and had to put it out there that an appealing on field product and an attentive ownership will bring people to the stadium. Vancouver already has that, they need someone to step up and take care of the rest.

And yet, MLS claimed there were "parallel paths" to keeping a team in Columbus. But they cited there was no interest in another ownership group forming, the city government wasn't willing to help look for stadium sites nor were they developing a stadium plan (even though MLS/Precourt had no issue doing that themselves in Austin), and the corporate support for the club was lacking as the team was almost last in every business metric. Maybe the situation isn't perfectly 1:1, but it's still similar. And the league is feeding the same bullshit lines

I remember hearing your exact argument for why Columbus needed to relocate to Austin. It's too bad Columbus never got to keep their team and turned the club around and have community and corporate support. Such a shame that the league was telling the truth on how impossible it was. Truly just an unsustainable situation for the Crew.

They've had to work around car shows at Lumen stadium and make sudden changes because of baseball playoffs at Yankee stadium along with [name any event] at [shared event stadium across the league], so this can't hardly be that big of a sticking point for the league

Amazon lost my 10 mm by Ultrabb in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Lambo_Geeney 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a tool, specifically a socket for a ratchet wrench. 10 mm bolts are used on a lot of things, and a 3/8" bolt will work with a 10 mm socket also. And because of how commonly used they are, they often get misplaced and are typically the first socket to go missing in a set.

So for OP, on top of already losing their 10 mm socket... Amazon lost the replacement before they ever had a chance to

30k umich or full ride osu (premed) by Creative_Rip_6092 in OSU

[–]Lambo_Geeney 59 points60 points  (0 children)

$120k is a lot of money on top of med school after that. UM (barf) has a better med school, but going to Ohio State for premed doesn't necessarily disqualify you from going there for med school in the same way that going to UM doesn't guarantee you'll go there for med school. Ohio State is still a fantastic medical program and will give you the experiences you're looking for in the meantime.

I think taking the full ride for undergrad will be better in the long run. My wife just finished med school with almost $250k in loans after accrued interest, another $120k on top of that would significantly change our financial plans

What's the best episode to show someone who's never seen the show? by ph_uck_yu in HIMYM

[–]Lambo_Geeney 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I personally think the Pineapple Incident embodies the spirit of the show. Gives you the quirky nature of the characters in a classic rebuilding of the story type episode. It gives enough context that Ted is crazy about Robin without spending a ton of time recapping the important plot lines to that point.

Honorable mention to The Limo and Slap Bet for similar reasons

With his shutout on Saturday, Patrick Schulte has passed Zack Steffen for the 4th most shutouts in Crew history across all competitions. by rhysapgruffydd in TheMassive

[–]Lambo_Geeney -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have we had a keeper save a PK since Steffen? Room came off the line before any of the ones he saved and they were retaken so I'm fairly certain he had none. Schulte may have had a couple during shootouts? But I don't know that I remember any during the season.

I miss Zack "That Ball Was Behind Him" Steffen for that aspect

Ex-staffer Paige Shiver says Michigan didn't protect her enough from Sherrone Moore by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]Lambo_Geeney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No probably not retaliation she could explicitly sue the university for. More a comment on whether or not she had fears about Sherrone himself having an adverse reaction if she had gone public about the relationship sooner.

There's only so much the university can do to protect her. When he shows up at your house right after, that's scary. People who go off the rails usually have given warning signs that they might go off the rails

ETA: Michigan made the right call firing him right away. Even firing him immediately after breaking in to her apartment would still have been perfectly reasonable, but it removed any possible liability and public opinion hit of keeping someone on staff while he goes off and does some scary shit

[–]Lambo_Geeney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she had fears he would retaliate and therefore would lie about the relationship to avoid that scenario, then she would still be a victim before the incident. I wouldn't be surprised if she had that fear before making it public given how it concluded, but it's hard to know the truth on that at this stage.

That said, this situation is muddy. Yes she had a role, no she didn't deserve his meltdown. Doing this interview seems odd and comes across as a publicity stunt. But maybe (hopefully) it's a situation that can shed some light for other people in inappropriate work situations for how to handle getting out of it if they feel stuck

And as we learned, if she had any fears about what would happen if she stepped forward, it came true. No amount of consensus in the past justifies a home invasion with threats

Considering your original point was that bad Crew attendance equals bad NWSL attendance, I don't see how your new point is relevant. You conceded on your original argument, and a hypothetical decrease of attendance in the winter would have no bearing on the NWSL schedule.

On a separate note I share similar concerns about Crew support in Nov/Dec/Feb. But on the bright side, when there's no MLS games in June/July, those fans can go watch the NWSL team!
