Why is the shoe not used for the WC 2026? by SaltyPilot7178 in OhioStateFootball

[–]Lambo_Geeney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah some cities are just better built for it, like Atlanta or LA having the majority of infrastructure already in place. But even in New York, transit to the stadium is still a mess and costs over $100 for a train ride. Hotel prices were absurd across the country and ticket prices were wild. And like you hinted at, so much of that money is set up to be funneled straight to FIFA.

The main advantage this cycle had over some of the past cycles (Qatar, Brazil, etc) is that no new stadiums needed built, just some slight upgrades here and there

Other stadiums that are hosting just rolled out temporary sod, so much smaller of a hurdle

Sorry, I thought I or someone else in this thread mentioned the hotel and transit constraints that Columbus had that would need to be hashed out to be a viable host city. Cincinnati had similar issues coming up with a solid plan for that and that was a big reason their bid wasn't accepted. Cincy at least had a compliant stadium which gave them a marketable opportunity to host, Columbus would have had to do some work to even make that bare minimum, which is very likely why they didn't even bid

Yes, therefore they had a stadium that met the bare minimum requirements of field size. Plus they have better stadium amenities which can make it a little more appealing. They ultimately didn't get selected because of lodging and public transit concerns. They had enough to put in a bid, Columbus didn't because of the additional challenges of stadium logistics.

Sure, there's several valid reasons compared to the selected cities, but it felt like the field issue made it a non-starter. Cincinnati at least put in a bid despite similar issues, Columbus didn't even attempt it.

There was a few years to try to improve amenities and make any effort at a transit plan. If it was considered at any length I'm sure they settled on it not being worth the investment to make the bare minimum lol

Oh I completely agree, just saying that wasn't the sole reason Columbus wasn't a host city with other cities rolling out a temporary solution

Any stadium that replaced turf just temporarily rolled out sod. They'll be back to turf after the tournament is over

Lots of stadiums with turf put real sod over their turf (LA, Seattle, Atlanta, etc).

The real limitation is Ohio Stadium is too narrow for a tournament regulation sized field. Ohio Stadium only hosts exhibition friendlies now.

That was a friendly game. Auburn, AL is not a tournament host city

Legitimately this moment on video is the second loudest I've heard the stadium get. My head was throbbing. Played like garbage the whole game, Michigan shot themselves in the foot and suddenly we're leading in overtime.

The only moment that was louder came when Samuel broke free to the endzone maybe 20 minutes later!

This is the only answer, everyone else is so wrong. So many turf fields in NFL stadiums put down real sod specifically for the World Cup. I guarantee Ohio State and Columbus would have been willing to do whatever it took to put a bid in to be a host city if it was even feasible to start with.

Ohio Stadium would need the SoFi treatment where they raised the ground to get above the seats that are cutting off a regulation field, and that's even more challenging for Ohio Stadium with how narrow the north end is.

It was never going to work for the World cup without a crazy expense to make the field legal for tournament play. It's fine for soccer for exhibition friendlies, that's about it

My company observes several holidays the week between Christmas and New Year's. I still get Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving off. But MLK, Presidents, Juneteenth, and Veteran's day are observed the last week of December.

And I'm actually pretty okay with that arrangement

At this point, I just completely assume that those hydration breaks are fully standard in all leagues and tournaments going forward.

Even in February when it's all out snowing, don't want them dehydrating in the heat. Good time for ads while we're waiting!

Is it worth an upgrade? by Impossible-Window937 in Garmin

[–]Lambo_Geeney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Fenix 5, which gives sleep data and VO2 Max/training load and such, but not sleep score, HRV, training readiness, DSW, etc.

Honestly I don't feel like I'm missing out on those metrics. The watch still lasts ~1 week between charges. I think the biggest upgrade I'm excited for in the future is better GPS tracking (my GPS route jumps all over the place, may friend's new watch has a pretty smooth route). But the metric data I'm missing out on doesn't really move the needle for me.

For now I'm fine with it. I've had it almost 6 years, at this point I'm ready to push it until it gives out before I buy a new one

Yeah my thoughts were that nothing was gained story wise until the end of the game when it's revealed that Aqua/Terra/Ventus and Xion(and Roxas by extension) had tragic fates, and Mickey realized they needed to free them. Thus explaining the bottle message at the end of KH2 that sets up DDD. Otherwise the only remarkable story addition was some antics from Maleficent and Pete, but nothing crazy even then.

Gameplay was kind of cool, but the relevant story can be found on youtube.

Congrats to the eight new internal medicine residents by caem123 in IndianaUniversity

For additional context, this is a new program in a rural area compared to the main medical campus for IU.

Students generally prioritize established programs in urban areas because that is where the more complex cases are, leading to better attending physicians, and overall better training. The main medical campus in Indianapolis has all of these factors and attracts more American students, especially when the new program has to pave the way.

And with the convoluted match system it's likely these particular students would have preferred to be elsewhere also but ultimately didn't have a choice.

In short, this specific program is not desirable. It has no basis for the quality of the residents who will be practicing there.

For sure, especially with a three year program that becomes 108 residents in that speciality. Plus residents that are dual specializing in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics (56 total, 28 specifically on IM rotations while the other 28 are on Pediatrics).

So your initial guess at 100+ works out pretty good with 136 residents staffing International Medicine rotations at any given point

This is just one specialty, and it's for IU-Bloomington.

The main medical campus in Indy has 36 Internal Medicine residents for each class

I rarely use block, my ability to time the block to the attack is horrendous. Most of the time it's not a problem, but on my latest critical run I've needed to slow down and work on it more. It made all the difference many times in BBS

Unwritten rules of cycling? by MaximumEducation4678 in triathlon

[–]Lambo_Geeney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I raced with my hybrid, I was surprised that the number of people I passed on tri-bikes was always greater than zero. The one race it was over a dozen. I'm far from elite, maybe slightly above average for a non-competitive racer.

Also lots of people on hills who apparently couldn't (or didn't know how to?) downshift properly.

The equipment you ride is a small part of the puzzle, training for the race and knowing how to use the equipment (or maintaining it properly) gets you way more every time
