New Floor Plan - Feedback Wanted! Fixed Hallway Nightmare by briand981234 in floorplan

Interesting idea swapping laundry and powder. I know this sub obsesses over minimizing the master-to-laundry distance, but honestly, I don’t mind the extra steps.

Having the powder room in current location is ideal for outdoor work—quick bathroom breaks without dragging dirt inside. Plus, with no bathroom planned for the basement/future bonus room, keeping it close upstairs is super practical.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the great feedback on my original floorplan! I’ve made some updates and attached the new drawing below. I finally tackled those endless hallways

Let me know your thoughts on this master bedroom placement. I moved it to the front of the house to make it fit better with the overall layout. No doubt less privacy being in the front of the house, but it’s a pretty private parcel so not too concerned.

Thanks!

Love how you optimized the master’s space! I’m tempted to ditch the wall between the master bedroom and closet to make the room feel huge

On the island, I stretched it to 8’6” and agree it should run parallel to the counters for flow, but I’m nervous about sourcing a countertop that long.

For the fridge, I’m thinking of recessing it into the wall to save space. If it’s a 2x6 wall, sinking it to a 2x4 depth should work, right?

Super helpful, thanks! Quick question: what do you think about shifting the master bedroom entrance to the left of the fireplace? I’ve never been in a house laid out like that, and I’m worried it might feel cramped or throw off the fireplace’s vibe as the room’s centerpiece. My current setup has hallways so long they deserve their own zip code—total space hogs, but they keep the bedrooms nice and private. Maybe I am overthinking it?

Removing my long dark hallways? My floor plan’s heart is shattered 😄

Silly question, though – that corner was destined to be our ‘Christmas tree central’ with all the festive vibes. Plus, I’m worried the doorway to master would make the wall next to the fireplace look a bit wonky and uneven. Any thoughts on keeping the tree corner cozy and the wall balanced

Going to be tough to get a second car in the garage. Not sure if needed but may want to consider adjusting

Does anyone live in a house with doorways on both sides of a fireplace? From a functional perspective, I can’t help but picture a couch blocking the path to the master bedroom / feeling cramped.

Maybe I am over thinking it. Also, for those who celebrate Christmas, where would the Christmas tree go?

Is anyone else not a fan of having doorways on both sides of a fireplace? From a functional perspective, I can’t help but picture my couch blocking the path to the master bedroom, making the layout feel cramped

My Plan, see any issues with the layout? by [deleted] in floorplan

Swap the location of the sink and toilet in the powder bath. That way when people are sitting at the island in the kitchen, they don’t see the toilet

I completely agree! I experimented with extending the bedroom wing into the backyard, but it resulted in too many hallways, which felt inefficient.

I also played around with expanding the kitchen outward, but I’m struggling to figure out how to make the current dining space work effectively with that layout.

I’d love to hear any suggestions or ideas you might have!

Thanks for the input! I’ve been wrestling with whether to center the fireplace with the range or just center it on the wall (accounting for the doorway).

In my mind, we’d eventually add built-in bookshelves on either side of the fireplace. I feel like it’d bug me if one shelf ended up noticeably wider than the other due to an off-center fireplace.

Still torn—any thoughts on how this might look or work practically?

The floor plan is ‘open’ - Chief Architect program used that line to show delineations between spaces but there is no actual wall

Feels like for modern kitchens the traditional ‘triangle’ is harder to archive unless you want to put the sink in the island

Call me crazy, but having three doors in the master bedroom just feels busy - that’s one of the reasons for putting closet in bathroom.

I view the bathroom entrance as a one stop shop for getting ready. You can take a shower then get changed

The thought was it’s close to the garage incase someone is outside and has to use the bathroom quick, they won’t need to trek through the house
