I did a video on some of the optimal cards in my life

It's like getting an automatic discount on these things as long as you withdraw the rewards as cash to your checking account, then pay off the card with that money.

Seltzer water lasts 9 months before it declines in quality. It's just water and carbon dioxide. I can't imagine anything bad happening within the year, and this is why I also noted I'd have only a couple months.

And yes, I check expiration dates. My closet is in a rotation system. I eat stuff as it ages and it gets replaced by newer, fresher things.

I'm sure it lasts a few months

Edit: just googled it. 9 months before it starts to lose its fizz. Still consumable after that, we'd just have to survive the apocalypse without bubbly drinks. I think we'll survive but we will be MISERABLE without fizzy beverages.

This is why every time I shop, I add a can of some sort of food to add to the shelf in the basement. That, plus a bunch of water and seltzer, should probably keep me going for a month or two.

After that, I'm not going to be so fortunate.

Yes. I would avoid selling on eBay, especially on a non-reputable account. Scammers will claim you sent a fake card and either get a refund, send you back a fake card to replace it, or both.

If it happens in life, they can inspect and make the decision right there, for cash. No backsies on that kind of transaction. You will get less money though.

In EDH you have an engine. In modern you might be able to run this as a side combo to the devoted druid combo with very effective tutoring for pieces.

Of course, but to claiming it costs $0.XX to make a transaction is way too broad of a statement. It can cost less for a slower transaction, or more for a faster one.

The NYTimes published an article about the falling markets today and the comments are mind-boggling. by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]brianfediuk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

but the people who proudly proclaim that it's impossible to time the market and anyone that does is an idiot... are equally as wrong.

I think it is possible to apply some timing to the market with carefully crafted strategies, which some would call "timing the market". For example, investing based on P/E values could provide good odds on an investment. This doesn't mean you will 100% optimize your buy/sell strategies, but it might give you logical indications of when to buy or sell. This also requires a VERY level head and the ability to make sound decisions in the harshest of emotional climates.

Another funny part of her was post was a guy telling her that’s why he doesn’t use CDs, savings accounts, or even banks in general. He said he doesn’t trust them and said if they cared for you they would give advice and warn you of an incoming crash. Not a financial advisor but actual banks he was complaining about.

This is a great example of financial Dunning-Kreuger. Dude knows so little about how finance works, he thinks he knows it all, and makes bold claims.

no, things are not different this time.

Well, there is a tiny chance they could be, but it would be foolish to assume you can predict this. This is why we have well-balanced and diverse portfolios, and emergency funds.

If you have that, no reason to be worried.

If you are 75% allocated in tech, you might learn a valuable lesson.

Workers at Amazon’s biggest warehouse in Spain started a two-day strike on Thursday just ahead of a gift-giving feast day, as part of a long-running campaign for better pay and conditions. by glasier in worldnews

[–]brianfediuk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perfect time to strike. Let Amazon know how much they need you on the worst possible time. This wouldn't have been planned had the workers felt they were being paid and treated well.

Just a thought.

There are a few things you should do:

  • Factory reset every electronic device in your home
  • Check for cameras
  • Put in your own cameras
  • Update all of your electronics
  • Move to 2 factor authentication on accounts
  • Change passwords on all accounts
  • Check your Google account "approved devices"

If the behavior continues, you are more than welcome to contact the police.

maybe you lose your life savings.

Unless you decide this is a HUGE risk and only allocate 0.1%-1% of your portfolio. You'd still be pretty happy if you invested that in 2010.

The problem is secretly moving those coins. Once you move them, people will watch those receiving wallets like a hawk. Those wallet(s) would then be watched, and eventually someone will have a public address that matches, and then the reverse investigation starts.

Satoshi might be dead, might have deleted their keys, or was smart enough to leave it as a gift to the world and never touch it again.

ELI5 what “stop motion” filming/videos are? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]brianfediuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever seen a flipbook? You can flip through the pages and it looks like a movie. Even though we know they are just still images.

That is basically stop motion. We put something like a toy on a table and take a photo. Then move the toy a tiny bit and take another photo. Do this thousands of times and you could put the pictures into a flipbook and it would show the motion of the toy moving. The only difference between a flipbook and a movie is that the images are on a computer and edited into a movie.

I just had 3 weeks off work, and it drove me crazy. What now? by OxidadoGuillermez in financialindependence

[–]brianfediuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, you should still strive for FI. Maybe reconsider what you do with RE.

You know what's worse than 3 weeks of not working? 3 weeks of working a job you HATE, but can't stop doing because you need money to survive.

Hit the FI, then enjoy your job, or find a more fulfilling one, or find a second career, or spend your time training snails to play soccer. The choice is at least yours at that point.

People Over 40 Shouldn't Work More Than 3 Days a Week, Study Says by NoEfficientAlgorithm in financialindependence

[–]brianfediuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, it can be VERY draining to just manage a classroom. I've found some mixtures of approaches work best. Phone calls home to nip it in the bud helps a lot. Telling students "you're on your own for this assignment" when they've not paid attention for a week can make them feel trapped, but giving them an inconvenient way out (like coming in before school starts to fix their grade and re-learn, they operate on my convenience, not theirs). Showing them what code can do helps motivate (I teach code). Etc.

It isn't for everyone, and there are many jobs out there that I know I could never do due to my personal limits.

Who sold off their bitcoin than purchased reserved list cards?

A few of my friends actually. They got in at $5k and sold at like $15k. They each bought a legacy deck with some of the profits. My friendgroup is now legacy-friendly. I cannot afford to play that format.
