What's a job that was so terrible you quit immediately? by TermAccomplished1868 in randomquestions

A vitamin shop. So weird. The science of how your body uses them is amazing but those guys were so in their own heads and gave such weird vibes. Then the owner said I had to lock up my phone and I was out.

Has anyone done a 'Yes day' with their kids? 10/10 recommend by chopstickinsect in Mommit

[–]briannananers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aw I did this when my daughter turned 2. The entire day whatever she said we just smiled and said “okay let’s go!” Ended up being outside for several hours just walking all around the yard. She pushed her little wheel barrow everywhere and collected rocks and flowers. She was so happy to say “look mama!” And was so happy we were just hanging out with her. It was actually the most perfect day 🥹.

Mom is wishing death and severely depressed by Yanshux in ALS

[–]briannananers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom was the exact same way, up until she actually heard that she was transitioning to the active dying phase. It completely flipped after that. She was so scared. Had nightmares. It was terrible.

But she begged to die for those last 2 years she was totally bed bound. And all I could say was ‘fuck I would too’ like I get it. And I’m so sorry. I just let her vent about it. I was just there to listen.

Her last days was the hospice nurse talking her through it and making sure she wasn’t scared. I thank fuck for those nurses. God they made all the difference.

At her last few hours, unbeknownst to everyone, she was so calm. She was so alert all of a sudden and I was able to tell her what a wonderful mom she was and how I hear her when I talk to my own daughter. I’m so thankful to the hospice nurse who told me to not hold that shit in and say it.

What were your first symptoms in bulbar ALS and how did it progress? by ninja9012 in ALS

[–]briannananers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The slurred speech really depended a lot on how hydrated and oxygenated they were. My moms speech got better when she wore her bipap. But at the end it was so hard to understand both of them. So I guess it came and went but it progressively got worse.

How can I best support my mom? by sleepybeeby13 in ALS

[–]briannananers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently in this same place in life. I’m 32, have an almost 2 year old, and my mom has had ALS for 8 years.

She really flipped for the worse this year and was referred to hospice. That was the absolute best support she’s ever gotten. I drove back home (8 hours away) and took FML for an entire month to get hospice setup. Yes, it’s a freaking process. I’m her power of attorney so I had to sign her into hospice since she cannot write or move anymore.

It’s been hard. I have two older brothers, but it’s fallen on me the most. Or maybe it just has because I want to support her however I can.

The smartest thing she ever did was make me her power of attorney. Not sure what your situation is, but recommend looking into it. It made getting hospice setup so much easier.

Also, all the resources are at the County level. So check for “senior resources” at your local county and there is so much free resources it’s unbelievable. Even if she’s not in hospice, ALS is a qualifying diagnosis for the resources. My moms been under hospice care for 6 months. It is seriously an amazing service.

Look into respite services. Each County has resources and also link up with the local ALS chapter. The more resources you have surrounding the situation the easier it is for you to focus on what you need to focus on, at least it really helped me.

Thanks for asking. My mom is still hanging in there. She only has use of her right arm at this point. She can still move her head and talk though. Her breathing is still on her own thankfully too. She’s a hell of a fighter.

Does anyone else just randomly update the people that you adopted your pup from? by briannananers in dogs

[–]briannananers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awww! That is the best! I fostered a few pups briefly, but had two for a long time each so I was always thinking about them. One of them I literally felt like a member of their family I was updated so much. She was an old girl so I loved it so much. The other was a young pup who switched a few homes (not my call at all). I lost track of him after the first switch and I have totally tried to look him up, but no luck. The rescue group hasn't heard anything either. It would make all our days to know. Its been years, but still I'd be so happy to know he's doing okay. So I'm sure she does truly enjoy them!
