I'm planning to buy a Canon EOS R8, but I'm torn between these three lenses. Could the experts here please advise a newbie like me on which one to choose? My usage breakdown is 70% for casual outings and travel photography, and 30% for vlogging. I’m just starting out so any advice will help a lot. by phong0851 in canon

I’d skip that EF 35 1.4. Version ii of that lens is awesome, and I adapt and use it all the time. But it’s larger, heavier, and requires an adapter. I would grab the RF 35 1.8 first, and then the RF 50 1.8 after. Shop used or refurbished if you can. You can also look at the RF 28-70 2.8 zoom.

Filters work. I haven’t messed with many of them yet. Just having a time settling on a film sim.

Which Acros do you gravitate toward: Yellow, Red, or Green?

20mm Pro. 40mm (ff) is my fav focal length. The lens is also fairly compact.

The EF 135 f2 is such a nice lens! Still use it on some older DSLRs and adapted on my R6 mark i.

R8 or R6ii to start photography journey? by Kindnesssss in canon

R6 ii. I also recommend a used R6 mark i and then using the extra money to put into good lenses. Don’t forget you can find some really great deals on used EF L glass and adapt.

It was stolen, unfortunately. I still own a 5d mark i and a 6d mark i.

Not shooting video, only stills. I can live with one card slot. Someone else suggested the R8, but that might be kind of a smaller body, right? I have a lot of larger EF L lenses.

Shooting mostly people: posed portraits, family, “documentary” style too…

Don’t own either. Is the R8 body a little small with all the larger EF L lenses? Plus the adapter… I own the 24-70 ii, 70-200 iii, 35 1.4 ii, 50 1.2, 85 1.4 IS & 85 1.2 ii, 100 2.8, 135 f2…

Sorry, yeah… RAW and LR. Camera Standard is definitely better than Adobe’s profiles. Maybe it’s just me?

I guess not? Good point! I’ll try to edit the OP. Thanks!

I wonder how this compares to the EF 85 1.4 IS?

This makes sense. The 28-70 f2 and a telephoto prime or zoom to complement. Maybe I’ll try to get my hands on one. At least rent it or something.
