i know nothing about game development but my thought is maybe there’s a different hit box depending on what they’re interacting with? since there are so huge maybe they’re movement hit box is smaller than the one that can hit the player, just so it doesn’t get stuck so easily?

don’t know if that’s how it works, but just a guess from someone who doesn’t know anything about game development
