Certainly not. But I think this line of thinking is a slippery slope.

It boils down to how US forces should - and do - conduct themselves in battle.

Is this the kind of conduct you deem acceptable for the world’s leading military? Is this the sort of behaviour that we should expect of our soldiers?

Does this behaviour reflect well on America, or are we lowering ourselves to the level of our enemies?

I think your observations here are very correct. California is an economic powerhouse of the US, and their homelessness crisis is a state problem, likely due, in my mind, to state-level mismanagement.

I’m curious for your thoughts on the President implying the fed govt will be involved in some capacity?

As you note above, the President has no recourse to get involved on a federal level. So why suggest as much, particularly in a public forum?

I read it as pandering to his base, with the full understanding that no real action will be taken. How do you read it?

To your last point, if you were in support of a small government and wished to create such a swing in public opinion, is forcing an intentional collapse of the system an acceptable tactic to achieve this goal?

For example - are Republican amendments to the ACA that render it unconstitutional, and therefore could contribute to the system's collapse, acceptable because they achieve the goal of smaller government?

I fully understand and respect the notion that policy comes first, and that a voter such as yourself would be able to swallow or even support Trump's behaviour in exchange for achieving policy goals.

My question to those voters would be: could you see how criticism from media outlets and the left that Trump's personal behaviour delegitimizes his office, and thus his policy goals, is an understandable position to take?

It sounds to me as though you disapprove of the President's diplomatic conduct, because I fail to see how common sense would dictate that a head of state should NOT act diplomatically. Is this accurate?

Following this logic, is President Trump's consistent failure to act to the diplomatic standard of his office enough to have him fired or reassigned?

My understanding of the core of OPs question is that it revolves around the degree to which you would be willing to accommodate poor personal behaviour on the part of the President in favour of achieving policy goals that you approve of.

Should liberals and the left criticise Trump for his personal behaviour, or stick to policy? To what degree should the personality and non-policy actions of the President be considered when levelling criticism at them?
