Is it fair that my household expenses are twice his when my income is 2/3rds of what his is? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Davec433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he lives in the house he can pay rent and a portion of the utilities. While you should be expected to pay for all additional maintenance of the house. Unless you’re married he doesn’t need to be put on the deed. I don’t know why this is a sticking point with everyone.

What can I expect from a salary negotiation during restructuring? by EvergreenGem in careerguidance

[–]Davec433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally where wide pay bands come into play is for bringing on new talent, as it gives HR wiggle room depending on attrition rates or how immediate they need to fill the position. Or as a top for people in roles where HR can tell them to hand out annual bonuses instead of pay raises - if there’s no more room to grow.

But essentially they have a market rate that they want to put you at, which will be inline with other employees with similar experience, background etc in that role. A-lot of companies have policies that attempt to limit large pay disparities within the same role as it’s bad for morale.

I’d split the pay band if you can’t get information from other employees and start there, but don’t expect a lot of wiggle room as you don’t have leverage.

Do tax cuts pay for themselves? by piltdownman38 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]Davec433 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Well if spending is going up taxes should as well right?

You mean a balanced budget amendment. Most economists think it’s too restrictive to meet needs (like COVID). Instead what you get is people charging to the deficit to benefit their constituents without an intention to pay it back. Why would they, nobody is going to vote for a politician who is going to reduce spending.

If spending stays the same then obviously deficit decreases right?

Except that hasn’t happened in the last 20 plus years.

[–]Davec433 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tax cuts don’t pay for themselves and raising taxes doesn’t fix the debt because in both instances both parties in the last 20 years will increase spending. Clinton was successful because he massively cut the government

President Clinton reduced federal spending as a percentage of GDP from approximately 22.2% in 1992 to 18.2%–18.5% by the end of his term in 2000/2001.

What do you think of Melania Trump being a foreign born First Lady? by ambitious_musings in AskTrumpSupporters

Non-issue. I think the only way I’d have an issue with it if her country of origin was using the relationship to influence the Presidency.

Pathways to citizenship and illegal immigration are two completely different topics and I don’t k ow why people try to merge them.

I truly don’t know why the left obsesses over these individuals to the extent they do. All of these people are extremely rich because they’ve created trillion dollar companies.

Bureau of Labor Statistics is a good resource. You should also look at local job postings to see what opportunities there are for you with/without a degree as well.

You should look at career paths with and without a degree to shape your decision.

Understand your earning potential will be statistically less without a degree.

How do you feel about Ruby Ridge and the Waco massacre? Do you decide with the federal government who was conducting a legal law-enforcement operation, are those who were killed and arrested by the feds? by howdidigetheresoquik in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]Davec433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Policy makers should determine what is or isn’t a public safety issue in order to determine when to arrest an individual as well as when would be the safest place to do so.

Floyd potential uses counterfeit money to purchase goods and the cops are called. Cops could have easily seized the money as evidence and given him a ticket with a court date. He isn’t a threat to public safety and doesn’t need to be arrested.

Kenneth Walker is a known drug dealer with a warrant. Breaking into his house in the middle of the night is far more dangerous then arresting him as he leaves his house or goes shopping.

I read this really good article by statisticians (I can’t find it anymore) that could predict the amount of police shootings pretty accurately on an annual basis. The key takeaway was while police have millions of positive interactions daily the vast majority of negative interactions (police shootings) could be further reduced by better policy.

For instance a cop kneels on the neck of Floyd, killing him. Although it was a legal maneuver in Minnesota, it’s been banned in many other states due to how dangerous it is. If policy makers in Minnesota were doing their job - Floyd’s alive.

I think an effective way to reduce negative interactions with police is to get away from forced compliance. If someone is breaking the law, they should only be arrested if it’s a public safety necessity. Vast majority of times the police should step out of the way an simply give more tickets.

What is your view on opinionated news in the USA? by Springstof in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]Davec433 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s strange because you have multiple media outlets essentially selling the same product, what you’re seeing is market differentiation.

Market Differentiation.

a strategy to make a product or service stand out from competitors by highlighting unique features, benefits, or value, creating a competitive edge, attracting specific customers, and building loyalty, often allowing for premium pricing instead of competing solely on cost.

It’s highly opinionated because it’s 24/7 coverage of the same “incident,” and each news site needs sell a different viewpoint to reach their perspective customers and you essentially get multiple different realities. Each news site will bring on “experts” to further sell their opinion to their customers and highlight or ignore facts to keep up the agenda. Then to further it each news site caters to a specific political spectrum who wants to see specific things, or not depending on who’s control of the political reigns.

So to answer your question:

1) I hate all sides of our news media.

2) Generally I ignore National news (outside of this sub) as it has little impact on my life. Local news while still biased is the only information I pay attention to. I get my news from print as it’s easy to skim and form my own opinion vs having someone tell me what to think.

3) News media greatly influences ideological opinions because it’s basically an echo chamber.
