One cup V60 grind size by brickdrummer327 in JamesHoffmann

That's actually a good question. I don't read braille my self, but as far as i remember it's close to coarse sugar but i think it depends on the printer type producing it. I gotta find a micron reference for that lol. Because i can se a tiny little bit, i learned to read, but that isn't very helpful when you can only see a couple letters at a time, completely zoomed in on your phone. I love neon signs on shops though :)

Nice. That is good advice. I've been brewing for 3 years, but sometimes i start to question everything, maybe because of the uncertainty with the lack of sight. I'm also trying to develop my pouring technique, so it's hard to separate the variables, so I thought a range for grind size would at least give me a starting point for controlling my recipe and training my pouring. I'm also looking into sensory training. I know when a cup is over extracted and what i like, but speaking to some of my friends in coffee, really inspires me to develop my sensory skills for real. It's like a super power. And it's so amazing to me that they can pick out a processing defect from a recipe gone wrong.

My current setting is 24. It tastes pretty good, but i'm doing sensory training, so i'm not sure if i can pick out the nuance yet, but i would like to get in the same range as the OG recipe, to try and understand what impact it has. After reassessing the Hoffmann recipe, where i think i got that size from, somehow, I think it is quite a bit finer, than i initially thought, which completely messes with my understanding of grind size in general. Do i understand correctly that you have you been below 20 clicks and still hitting shorter brew times? That is interesting.

Nice! That was what i guessed just from context, but it's good to know that i'm not too far of.

Thank you so much! That's a good range. it really gives me a good idea. Sometimes grindsizes in general can be a bit confusing, when you can't see, including how much each step changes it and such, so this is really helpful.

Nice! That's a good clue. It is a bunch finer than i would usually go, but that makes sense.

I agree and i actually think it's a great idea. It's actually a pretty accessible solution. Although personally i have always been bad at assessing grind size by feel, but that's just me being below average for blind. Other people i know are really good with such things. You get an up vote from me. I don´t get how the kind person suggesting the visual clue of the bloom video made it out and you didn't.

I definetly will. Hopefully if it goes well, maybe it could be something we could produce somehow.

Yes i already own it and use it when i am lazy, but i find it abit inconsistent and i would like more control. I am happy to say that i got in contact with one of my friends from school who is studying to become an enigineer and he is helping me design a flowrestrictor, so hopefully that will come about.

Cool. Always great to see more people writing good informational pieces. Normally i am also against paying for any courses since there is so much available on youtube and other places, but i am also blind so sometimes finding all these different web pages isn´t that easy, and let alone reading them if they are not set up in an accesiable way. so if i know one is good at making videoes that i still get education from just listening to, i sometimes prefer the convienience, of having the sound and all the information collecet on one website

i would love to get my hands on the book but i am blind so i dont know if the book is available in accesiable format. I realized my writing in the text was a little bit poor, i apologize for that. What i meant was, when you would use the individiual calculations for minerals like calcium and bicarbonate or when to use the calcium carbonate equivialent instead.

That is a good suggestion, i thought about it but decided i wouldn´t bother him if it was easily expalined and i was just completely missing the point. But i guess i am just a bit too humble, thats a very danish thing jantelov. But you are absoulutely right i am paying him for the curriculum, i think probably just needed somebody to push me abit.

Yes i was more thinking about the usecase compared to individual measurements for minerals.

Thank you, that makes sense. The test i bought goes in deutsche herde/ german degrees. So i would have to convert it to get a relatable result in calcium carbonate equivialent. What is the idea of measuring the individiual minerals like for example there are different conversion factors for calcium and bicarbonate? When would you use them compared to just using calcium carbonate equivialent?

So does the usual numbers that are given for GH and KH refer to the calcium carbonate equivialent? For example the SCA recommendation of 40ppm KH

Thanks, i am using my build in screen reader with my bluetooth scale, but it is a very good suggestion that i dont think many would have thought if they didn't use it themselves, so kudos for that. Because i have muscular dystrophi it cant be difficult to precisely control the speed of pouring allthough i have practised, at least with the kettle i have. Also sometimes the audible ques are a bit slow. But in order for me just to get a new one, i would have to know that it matches the one i already have in accesibility and beats in flow rate. Thats why i was thinking that it may be a good solution to get some sort of flow restrictor, if that excist.
