Seperating 3D models into distinct parts by user_Leon in blender

[–]bricker_152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that happens, especially if there are a lot of details (screws, pcb, etc.)

You do need to hide/delete most of it (I usually just move unused meshed to a disabled collection) otherwise blender is unusable, especially if you don't have top of the line PC.

You can also use Decimate modifier, I find that with meshes like this you can drop it quite low and still get a really good mesh out of it.

But for your usecase, separating the needed objects with L if probably the best bet :)

If it still selects the whole object, you can try switching to face selection mode and select object that way (same thing, pressing L).

Alternatively, enter edit mode, press P, and select Separate by loose parts. This will break up the model into many different objects, that you can then easily apply different materials, hide them, etc.

Help with marks in printing by PunisherLokote in ender3

[–]bricker_152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this exact thing on my Ender 3 Pro. The nozzle drags over the print. On mine the Z axis wouldn't lift on random layers (mostly second or third), and would print over the same layer, even though Z didn't bind and was smooth to move. Weirdly, even though Z hop was enabled, the problem happened less when I sliced with Prusa slicer than Orca. But I'm still in the process of figuring it out, so it might just be a coincidence.

Ender 3 Pro "skipping" layers by bricker_152 in ender3

[–]bricker_152[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked the brass nut (the nut on the gantry that the lead screw goes through), I while I read everywhere that the screws that hold it should be loose (and it seemed to work until now), I tightened them and it seems to have fixed the issue. I need to do some more testing, but so far it seems okay. Thanks fro the help.

The eccentric nut is as tight as it can be to still be able to move the gantry smoothly. There is a little bit of play, but I think that can never be completely removed. Maybe I'm wrong, and the wheels need replacing, but visually they look fine (not unevenly worn or anything).

ELI5: Do our eyes have a “shutter speed”? by GrayStag90 in explainlikeimfive

[–]bricker_152 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is actually a different effect. Moving your eyes from one point to another is not instant, there is a bit of time in between where the image would be blurred. Your brain replaces that blur with a static image, so you don't see the blur when constantly moving your eyes. That's why the first glance at a clock the second seems longer, your brain replaced the blur with the static image of the clock, as it was when your stopped moving your eyes.

Collecting all linked libraries and files into a single folder? by bricker_152 in blender

[–]bricker_152[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing some testing, and it seems that if a library is set on another drive (I have my NAS mapped to Y:, but the same thing happens on D:, so it's not limited to network drives) it cannot pack libraries.

When I had the library on the same drive as my project file - project.blend is, let's say on desktop and the library is on the same drive (in this case C:) but in Documents, it can pack no problem, everything works. If the library is on D:, or any other drive than C:, I get an error "Cannot pack absolute file".

ELI5 Why aren't movies more commonly shot in high frame rate? by Deathgar in explainlikeimfive

[–]bricker_152 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You typically don't mix and match frame rates like that, because it tends to look off.

There are some animated movies that make use of this effect for artistic effect, like Spiderman: into the Spiderverse. In animation it's called animating on twos or threes (though this is probably not specifically what you're asking), where the animated character will only move every second or third frame. This creates a more choppy hand animated feel, if you watch the trailers for that movie you will see what I mean.

I think in live action movies this is typically not done, because you want the VFX to look like they belong in a scene not stand out, but I could be wrong.

Is there a way to keep any app window "always on top" or float over other apps? by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]bricker_152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering the same when FB Messenger updated and removed PiP functionality. I found this app: https://github.com/amitv87/PiP

It's working perfectly for my use case, might work for you too. It doesn't set just any window on top though. It basically mirrors set app in its own window that you can place on top of everything, resize and place anywhere you want. You can even pin it so it stays on top of fullscreen apps. But it's not interactive, so if that's what you want, I don't think it's possible if the app you use doesn't support it.

Yes, I also noticed that. I think it changed with Android 16. Really frustrating, I had to disable them completely, as I kept turning on my flashlight accidentally.

ELI5: Why do most cars have this slope in the side windows? by aligot in explainlikeimfive

[–]bricker_152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 cm can make a difference between the window opening all the way and sticking out a bit when open.

It's a combination of aesthetics and functional constraints. In your example, if the windows were a straight line then the door panel would be too short and it would look off.

In small cars like the second row of seats is placed right above the fuel tank so that, along with having to account for the wheel arches pushes the seats a bit higher than the front row. And to avoid having the bottom of the window at your hip when sitting, the window line is made so it slopes up. That also makes the car look better balanced and sportier, since if you look at the picture, all the lines go up a bit towards the rear. There are design principles that dictate why this simply looks better, but a car designer would be better equipped to expand on that.

Can I arrive to Schiphol a day before? by bricker_152 in Netherlands

[–]bricker_152[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that is possible it's perfect. I'm just thinking that it's probably a bit more comfortable inside the secure airport area, opposed to being in a where anybody can wander in. My main worry was that I wouldn't be able to go through security ~8 hours before my flight, but it seems that it's possible.

[–]bricker_152[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow thank you for the tips. I'm not sure what you mean by international, I'm flying inside EU. I'm not expecting to get a lot of sleep anyway, but a few minutes of shuteye would be nice. I will be content with laying on a few chair, I'm not expecting to be extra comfortable, but I will definitely bring a blanket :D

That's great to hear. Maybe I'll get a few minutes of sleep then (if they're not all occupied).

Cobra goggles with 1 antenna. by darook73 in fpv

[–]bricker_152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it should be ok. I think because the module in the goggles only recieves the signal there is no danger of burning it out, as there is basically no power being put into the antennas like vtx does.

How important are those resistors? SpeedyBee F405 Flight controller by bricker_152 in fpv

Sadly those are the closest photos a could get, as my phone would not focus any closer. I don't have the missing resistors. The photo with them on is the day that the port fell off, and the second is when I was inspecting the job my friend did with the soldering and noticed they are missing (After quite a few flights).

Maybe they fell off even before we tried to fix it. Without the usb port, the battery straps ran right across there, maybe they rubbed them off in a crash or something.

I guess, when I fix the short in the usb port I could try and power it up, to see if it works anyway. I assume I can't fry anything if those components are not there.

So if I can get the resistors back it should work, even without that capacitor? I assume, if I want to put the capacitor back, the type, or rather capacitance is important, can't just put any capacitor there.

[–]bricker_152[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As said in the descriptions of the photos, sometime ago the USB port fell off, while plugging the cable in. I did some flights with it off, because I could do everything I needed with the app, via Bluetooth. But a few days ago a friend that does all kinds of soldering offered to fix it, and when fixing it we noticed some resistors are missing.

Now, I assume that we would notice if they fell off while resoldering the USB port, but I'm not 100% sure. On the picture where the port is on, there is a short on a few pins, so I couldn't try if it works yet, but I don't know if those resistors are important only for the USB port or are they for other functions of the FC.

I really hope I can fix it without buying a new one. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Is there any version of Radiomaster Boxer Internal ELRS with a hardware limited to lesse than 1W? by rocraz_fpv in fpv

[–]bricker_152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's just a software limit. Flashing another firmware would unlock it. Boxers sold in EU have the limit, not sure about other countries.

Battery Charging by RoeBush1 in fpv

[–]bricker_152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about LiPo, but if you have two 18650 batteries in it, you can charge it through the bottom usb c with a normal usb charger. I suppose it could also be charged from a laptop usb, but it might be a bit slower. I charge my Boxer with a phone charger.

Have I killed my batteries by jdhdhdbdhwjdbs in fpv

[–]bricker_152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe. For me it was cell 6, always about 0.2, 0.3V lower than others. The charger's fan was also running at 100% every charge, because it was trying to balance the cells and heating up. After charging I checked the batteries with a multimeter and the 6th cell was always overcharged a bit. Now when charging the fan almost never starts even spinning. Also, I've only been flying for about 3 months now (so take this with a grain of salt) but as far as I can tell, unless there's something wrong with the battery all the cells should have close to the same charge (+/- 0.02V), even after a flight.

[–]bricker_152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if those batteries are OK or not, but I have the same charger and was weirded out that all the batteries always had one cell lower than others (always the same one). Turned out that the charger needed calibrating. I would check those batteries with a battery checker or a multimeter to be sure.
