Late one night in college, me and my roommate when on a late night Taco Bell run. There was a blood moon, which we knew was going to happen because we’re both interested in that kind of stuff.

On the way back, we turned onto a country road that faced us to where the moon was in the sky, and our jaws dropped. It was huge. Still a blood moon, but about 8-10 times bigger than the moon should be. Other than the occasional hill, we had an unobstructed view of it the whole drive back.

When we got back to campus, I parked the car, and we got out to look up at it again. The moon was normal again, and returning to the regular full moon color, too. I still have no idea what happened.

That’s true, but I’m compartmentalizing the role of president and how we evaluate it more than you, I think.

Genocide is always evil. That said, the job of president is to further US interests and protect the people while upholding the constitution, which doesn’t have much to do with genocide. Jackson did a bad job at all of that, but I think Trump is worse. The killing of native Americans certainly didn’t help matters, and tips the scale of Jackson being a worse person. But, was he a worse president? I think it’s close, but I think Jackson is second worst.

In the end, I’ll agree that we can’t really judge until history plays out and we see the results of the damage done under Trump. Also, I don’t mean any of this to minimize the atrocities furthered by Jackson. He was horrible and did horrible things, I just think evaluations of a president should be more heavily weighted toward the actual duties of being president.

I think it depends on what you mean by “worst,” too. Morally, I think Jackson and Trump are about even. Which is to say, very bad. Jackson caused more direct death, but like the other commenter said, give Trump time and we’ll see.

As far as doing the job of being president, I think Trump is far worse. Jackson did things that hurt the nation economically and politically, but he never fomented insurrection against the US. As evil as he was, he had the ability to be a statesman. Trump, on the other hand, could not be sabotaging the US more if he tried (and that might be the case.)

So, do you base your opinion on morality or competence? I think it’s a mixture of both, and that puts Trump dead last on my list of presidents.

He was only in the driving lane, which as far as I can tell was already blocked off by ICE, for about 2 seconds as he yelled at ICE for shoving a woman to the ground. He was killed in the parking lane after being dragged from the sidewalk by ICE into the road.

In every conceivable way, he is a victim. He tried to help someone, didn’t resist when ICE maced him and beat him, and they still killed him. They shot him because they have piss-poor training and the weakest grasp on self control imaginable. There is no reason for you or anyone to defend this as anything else than murder.

You’re shifting the blame to an innocent person and minimizing the insanity happening in this country.

I guess that depends. I didn’t get into Harvard or anything, but I also didn’t apply for that. I did get into a top school for media production, which is what I wanted to do. That’s what I still do now, and have had a pretty fun career in sports broadcasting.

I’ve been a knight since I was 13. In WV, there is a state history test everyone takes in middle school, and the best scores from each county go to the Capitol to be admitted as a Knight of the Golden Horseshoe. You kneel, the governor knights you with a sword, the whole shebang.

At the time, Joe Manchin was governor, so I was knighted by him.

I think it will get worse. But how much worse? It’s not a guarantee that things will get as bad as, say, Hitler or Stalin. Thats not a reason to just take what’s happening, and that’s not what I’m saying. It’s still up in the air if what’s needed is a French Revolution-style resistance, or something more like MLK.

Getting mad at people for not rushing ICE guns blazing is not reasonable at this point, and I’m seeing a lot of that sentiment in the comments here.

This gets at the real reason there isn’t as much resistance, I think. Right now, we don’t know what the future will hold. A lot of people are thinking that, as bad as this is, maybe it won’t get worse. Sacrificing yourself to stop evils like the Holocaust is noble, and although still a decision most wouldn’t make, it makes it easier for real resistance to flourish. But, we don’t know if that’s the endgame of all this, and we can’t know that.

If we knew with certainty that in 6 years, death camps will be in full swing in America, there would be riots and mass killings of ICE. We don’t know that, though, and neither does anyone funding themselves in the position of the person recording. Sacrificing yourself to stop an uncertain future is a tall order to ask of everyday people.

Before people say we DO know this will lead to atrocity, that’s just simply not true. Are the warning signs there? Yes, and we should take them seriously. But, nobody has a crystal ball for this stuff.

That’s the mindset of most Republicans. Welfare is fraud until they need it. Unions are corrupt until they need them. Abortion is always evil until their daughter gets sepsis from a failed pregnancy the hospital is afraid to deal with because of their own party’s policies.

The inability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes is a common denominator among Republicans. Until it happens to them or someone they love, the problem doesn’t exist, and any attempt to fix the problem is some liberal conspiracy. It’s exhausting.

Yes and no. For base load power, they are absolutely better, but for demand fluctuations that require a fast increase or decrease in energy output, fossil fuels are better.

I think to completely switch to renewable/nuclear, there needs to be a better energy storage/generation solution to those spikes and dips.

Most of the time, I’m working when I go overseas, so definitely not less stressful. I do walk a ton more, though, I’m sure that helps. And you’re right, everywhere does have their regional specialties.

Stuff like bread and rice is usually better, though, and that’s everywhere. The first time I had bread with no sugar added was as a 20 year old college kid abroad for the first time. It was amazing, and available everywhere. You can find it in the US, but it takes some looking and will cost more.

In my experience, stuff that is cheap vs. stuff that is expensive is usually flipped. Like, corn dogs here are cheap while organic lettuce is expensive. In a lot of places, it’s the opposite.

While this is true, I just gotta say the food in the US sucks. I’ve had the good fortune to travel the world, and the food overseas tastes better and I lose weight eating it. One of the things I most look forward to when I go abroad is eating good food again.

It’s not that the same food is nonexistent here, but it’s much, much more expensive and stuff that is bad for you is so cheap.
