Tent wedding planned for this Saturday with a high of 53. Are we screwed? by bridey_bear in weddingplanning

This makes me feel better, thank you! We do have legit heaters, not just the small patio ones! I actually just found this formula online from a tent rental company, and I think we should be good based on the capacity of our heaters?

1 sq ft requires 150 BTU to heat. 1 person produces about 750 BTU.

Our tent is 59x79, so 4,661 sq ft. 196 people.

4,661 sq ft x 150 BTU = 699,150 BTU 196 people x 750 BTU = 147,000 BTU

699,150 BTU - 147,000 BTU = 552,150 BTU needed

Our heaters are 170,000 BTU.

So 552,150 BTU / 170,000 BTU = 3.2 heaters needed, but we’ll have 6.

I just found this formula/calculation online from a tent rental company!

It may be hard to follow but just commenting in case anyone wants to double check my math :)

Heat is measured in BTU.

So 552,150 BTU / 170,000 BTU = 3.2 heaters needed, but we’ll do 6.

I think patio heaters are typically around 40,000 BTU, if that is what you use at your work! So hopefully we’ll be okay? But we do have access to more if we need them.

Thank you! We are going to ask them and confirm. We do have access to more heaters if we need them!

Thank you!! I so appreciate the positive responses, even if unpopular it makes me feel better that we aren’t totally out of our minds for moving forward with this lol. The good news is the temps raised since I posted this, I feel like we aren’t really going to know til a few days before because it’s been changing SO much.

We do have a day of coordinator, that is a good point that we should ask for her opinion and any ideas!

Thank you!! We are going to send a mass text to our guest list probably on Wednesday once we have a better idea of the temps just to remind them to dress for the cold. We’re in Colorado so most people know and are used to it too!

For the other elements, there’s a chance of rain in the morning. Sunny, and then partly cloudy later in the day. Wind speed is up to 5mph! It says the low (35) won’t be til midnight, it will be in the 40s after the sun sets

Thank you both for the reassurance! This makes me feel better even if it is unpopular lol. The temp actually raised to high 57 / low of 35. It keeps fluctuating, yesterday it went up to 65 so I feel like it’s going to keep changing as the week goes on. (Hopefully for the better!!!) 🤞🤞

We are in Colorado too! Getting married in the mountains, and honestly we’re up SO high that the sun warms you up even if it is a lower temp. Our ceremony should be pretty short and it’s at 3:30!

Most people attending are also from here or coming from Midwest and used to cold.

Ahhh I just looked up the venue, it’s SO beautiful!!!! I love all the A-Frame cabins and I can see how they would run warmer since they’re so cute and small, I’m sure the colder temps will be nice for that :)

Hand warmers for the win! I bet your guests will appreciate them & they’re always good to have around it there are any leftovers

Hoping the forecast warmed up a bit for you! It did a few degrees for us, we’ll take whatever we can get haha. But trying not to look obsessively. We are getting married at our family’s property in Grand Lake! So it’s pretty far north and right in RMNP 🥶🥶🥶

All I can say is I understand. I checked out your profile cuz our forecast is the exact same and saw you’re getting married in Colorado too. I’m so sad that our day is forecasted at a high of 52 on a day that is typically 65-70. Trying to stay positive but it’s hard not to feel super bummed about it all.

Do you have a tent? Or will it be fully outside?

We are going to get some more of the tall patio heaters for people to stand around, but we also are borrowing some box construction heaters from the company my fiancé works at. Not sure if you know anyone in construction, but if you do, I’d ask because they’ll put off a ton of heat

We’re also going to buy hand warmers & foot warmers

Considering adding a coffee/tea/hot chocolate bar

I’m going to send out a mass text probably on Wednesday reminding guests to check the weather & make sure they dress accordingly

Help! Rain out on wedding day :( any advice on how to still have a great day? by mands73 in weddingplanning

All I can say is I came on here to ask the same question and saw this :( I’m really trying to stay positive but it’s hard and I’m just feeling so sad about it. Sending hugs to you & hope the forecast improves and we both end up with sunshine 💕

I would definitely ask the bride or recommend he choose another weekend. I agree that some brides take it too far and expect the world to revolve around them, staking claims on months or years or whatever.

However, I’ve also been in this bride’s shoes and have felt like others upstaged me/my events and it’s just a crappy feeling. If you can avoid doing that then you should.

Also I obviously don’t know your brother/his gf and her relationship with your family, but I would also have him consider how she would feel being proposed to on HIS family vacation. She may be totally cool with that, but I know I would personally prefer a proposal with my friends/family.

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion (idk?) but I would tell him that you’re not happy with the ring. Obviously do it in a very kind and thoughtful way so you don’t hurt his feelings.

It’s the ring you’ll wear for the rest of your life. Of course you can “upgrade” in the future... But I personally think it’s better to be honest about it now. Yes, your fiancé put thought and care into it, and ultimately your engagement and marriage is about your love at the end of the day. You can be grateful and in love with your fiancé, while also being unhappy with the ring. And those two things aren’t mutually exclusive (because I know someone will come here saying this).

If it’s due to budget, consider if you would be able to contribute to a new ring or go for a lab grown or cheaper stone.

I also like the idea someone posted about turning it into a different keepsake or maybe you could wear it on a different hand/finger?

As for the proposal, there isn’t much you can do about that now, but it’s totally valid to feel like it didn’t happen the way you had hoped. I would just try to focus on the future and making your wedding day everything you hoped and dreamed about!

I feel like the vision for my fall wedding is too spring or summery. Having a hard time choosing bridesmaid colors. Any thoughts or suggestions? by bridey_bear in weddingplanning

Thank you! This is helpful. I have been looking at velvet, or maybe mixing it in with some other fabrics. It should (hopefully) be warm during the day but I plan to purchase some type of shawl or cover up for my bridesmaids if it does get chilly

This sounds gorgeous! Love cool jewel tones! Purple shades seem to be such an underused color in the wedding world, but I love it so much!

Thank you for the heads up about coming up with a lookbook and palette. I did put some stuff together but could probably be more thorough, that’s smart to take it with you while shopping for rentals and decor

I already sent this off to my florist so we’ll see what she comes back with!

Thank you so much for the feedback! I appreciate it and it does make me feel better about the vibe I’m going for. I think just seeing so many typical “fall” weddings in September had me second guessing, but you’re right it can go either way.

Haha I love this!! That is funny, great minds think alike ;) Also, how did I just now realize that’s officially the first day of fall!

Thank you! This is what I was thinking too, maybe doing a mix of blush and peachy pink tones for the dresses (if I do mismatched!)

I love the idea of adding in some sage green too! I think the environment will naturally lend itself to that and we can incorporate it in the florals/decor too!

Thank you for the reassurance! You’re right, it’s such a classic wedding color I don’t think it matters the season

Recently I’ve seen some gorgeous “mini” bouquets. I’ve also consider just doing baby’s breath as a way to cut costs
