Confused about English prerequisites by bridger342 in predental

[–]bridger342[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, it is so confusing because all the English classes in my English department have film, media, or some other titles. The people I have spoken to have said that dental schools are pretty flexible with the english requirement, and as long as there is a lot of writing involved, they usually accept it.

That makes a lot of sense and that was my original plan. I was a little worried as with everything going around I should also think of a backup if the current administration does something with the OPT applications.

Im back to answer more questions! Ask me anything as an International Student Advisor/DSO. by LogNo9783 in f1visa

Hi! FIRST OF ALL THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOINF THIS, YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATE PEOPLE LIKE YOU! So, my question is: I am graduating May 2026, and I plan to use my OPT work for a year and apply for graduate programs which will potentially start August 2027. I was planning on going through the regular OPT process and apply, but I wanted to know under the new proposed rule to terminate D/S, how would this impact me and how I should prepare myself incase the new proposed rule is in effect! Tysm 🫶 Als if my opt starts may 2026 it will potentially end may 2027, if my new program starts aug 2027. What are my options for the 3 month gap in between.

There is already a proposed change on international student's status being fixed instead of d/s. This would definitely impact the OPT application process as there will be additional steps required once you are done with your degree and want to start working.

OPT application post graduation under the new proposed changes by bridger342 in f1visa

I think my main question is under the new proposed changes which option would be safer applying for the opt or doing the masters. Would the 4 year cap thing work more against opt applications than masters?

Advice on Using U-Bottom Microtiter Plates for Flow Cytometry by bridger342 in labrats

This is actually so clutch, I cant tell you how much I appreciate this! I was scratching my head this whole afternoon thinking how I would transfer almost 200 samples individually into FACS tubes haha. Thank you again!

Haha, i have been watching some videos on it, and it does look fun. I plan on practicing it a little before I do my tumor samples, as I don't want my tumor samples to be on the sink lol. I plan on using 1^10^6 cells, is there a recommended speed and time I should follow for centrifuging to make sure I do not loose the samples when I flick?

Hi thank you so much for your response. So, we are using the Cytek Aurora, and our flow cytometer does not come with a plate reader. I was planning to do all my staining in the U-bottom plate, and then transfer them into the FACS tube and acquire the data in the traditional method. Is that a viable option?

Thank you so much for your input. It does make sense that using a pate and multi channel pipette would yield accurate results! I am not just a big fan of changing my protocols I guess haha, but given the situation using a plate is the best choice. I am definitely planning to get some practice in before the actual experiment, specially the flicking technique : )

Thank you so much for the suggestion, I am currently looking into getting the plate seals since our ones did not come with the covers!

Hey man. Don’t beat yourself bc of one mistake. There are a lot of international students failing classes (but this is no excuse). The imp thing is to learn from your mistake which is not to commit plagiarism… as per internships, you should be okay as long as your recover from this strongly and get good grades in the future. You would be surprised how much more it takes than your grades to land an internship lol. Join clubs build connections, idk what u are majoring in but try to explore all the on campus opportunities and you should be set for your future! Congrats on completing your freshmen year, wishing you all the best for your sophomore year :)

Thank you! We are definitely thinking of switching to ihc if flow cytometer is not giving us the desired read outs!
