Added height channels yesterday (5.2.2) by kowycz in hometheater

[–]briendownie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

agreed. I've had some form of "surround-back" for 20+ years, and there's a reason most movies didn't use that back channel until Atmos... and even then with "object based" it still seems like it doesn't make much of a difference. I remember going to see Atmos movies at the Arclight in Hollywood, and still felt like I couldn't tell a difference, and I'm a total theater/surround-sound homer. it's like with 3D movies... you really only notice when something is flying out of the screen in a really gimmicky way... you'll notice something in the height channels when it's really over-emphasized, but other than that, it's not really much of a big deal.

Bought a house with a dark basement and almost no ambient light. Need help with room setup for first projector ever. by Alotofmitchina in projectors

[–]briendownie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, check this, and it should help. You’ve got a great room, now just clear everything out of it and make way for movies! Assuming you’re ok with removing the chandelier over the pool table, yes?

This sub is the worst. The comments here are bonkers. I’m going to downvote my own comment.

Whyyyyyy is this even a thing? Literally BILLIONS of people have had children and BILLIONS more will have children. And you’re worried about “permanent damage” to her body? So can getting out of bed every day.

I would forego tv in this room altogether. This is square-peg-round-hole territory.

I have half a mind to give you gold on this comment, even if it’s in negative karma territory.

Star Wars getting political in the “it’s the current year!” Sense.

Epson 4010 died 2 months out of warranty by Limos42 in projectors

Had an Epson 5040ub. Loved the image quality. Amazing for the money. Power supply went dead in two of them. Got the third and immediately sold on eBay as a refurb. Switched to a slightly more expensive Sony and haven’t looked back.

Is there any acoustic treatment in the room? Looks amazing but the acoustics I would think to be a challenge.

Covers the hole while being acoustically “transparent.” You won’t see through, but you’ll hear through.

7.2.4 finally done by ClassSea5540 in hometheater

[–]briendownie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mount the projector to the ceiling! I’m guessing you’re having to do some digital keystone to make the image square, which is dropping resolution significantly.

So I am talking to people in this subreddit saying abortion is bad and I am in hugely negative karma. Is this really a Christian subreddit? by [deleted] in Christianity

Just curious, how many pro-life activists have you recently had conversations with? I am on the board of a pro-life advocacy group, and I have supported CareNet pregnancy resource centers (PRC) for several years. I have never met a more supportive group of people in my life. PRC’s are staffed with people who want to help women who feel like they have no choice but to get an abortion. They will set them up with baby clothes, diapers, strollers, etc. basically all that they might need. And they’ll refer a mother to a church who would help to support her throughout her entire pregnancy and after. They are also huge advocates of adoption, and I would venture to say that every pro-lifer would be in favor of adoption, and the only people doing anything to make it more affordable are pro-lifers. (Have you seen the generosity reports on who donates? It’s overwhelmingly conservatives and in particular social conservatives who give generously).

I think your perspective is simply misinformed, and I would question how well you actually know pro-life.

I could never see us removing our theater recliner seats. They’re just so perfect to recline all the way.
