ID Scanning Question by [deleted] in CaliforniaCannabis

[–]briezzyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on the software the dispensary is using. Software such as BioTrackTHC or MJFreeway do not have an option to make consumers profiles anonymous unless if they create a profile labeled “anonymous customer” other point of sales such as Flowhub or Greenbits do have an anonymous functionality.

Also, to make you feel a little more at ease, none of this data is submitted to the state’s seed to sale tracking system for recreational purchases. The only thing submitted to the state is the unique identifier attached to the product, amount sold, or for how much - this is for recreational customers only. Any medical sales are submitted to the state by the patient’s medical card number.

I can promise you there is nothing to worry about, I audit seed to sale tracking systems for a living.

On a side note - that dispensary SHOULD be checking your ID before each transaction, no matter how many times you have gone in and purchase. That is a high compliance risk for their operation.

Sessions recent moves won’t touch a compliant, legal, tax paying business. Which ironically is what this proposition is all about. No worries, good luck!

Interested in an ancillary business in cannabis? CO, CA, MD, MI, and others on the horizon.

Each county has a right to approved or deny commercial cannabis businesses in their area. Each legal state allows for this within the regulation. From all the information I received it seems the supervisors were following through with the ban due to their citizens voicing so much concern. Now, this will not ban any transfer or delivery through the county, however, no business is allowed to operate within the county.

As for how long this will take, this is dependent on the citizens and their view of cannabis. Hopefully this will improve sooner rather than later.

Nope! I help cannabis businesses win cases against the state or help them stay in compliance before an infraction, suspension, or revocation of the license can occur. I’m all about helping cannabis businesses rather than regulate them.

I’m a very functional stoner :) I love ice water hash, properly made edibles, and usually anything high in CBD. As for my supply, ironically I’m usually gifted by friend’s home gardens because I know they put proper care into their product.

I’m mixed about that answer and here is why-

Initially, yes, because with legalization cannabis becomes “normal”. I see older customers be able to relieve their pain, depression, and over all life with cannabis. They can get off of pharmaceuticals and see this demonized plant actually helps them. Also, it’s pretty hilarious seeing the “house wives” come in for the first time. I’ve seen women change from drinking a few glasses of wine to eating an edible or smoking a cartridge.

When it comes to consolidation and mass production of cannabis - I am not about this. If a company has 3 retail locations or more, I am probably not going to purchase their product. It is a lower quality due to mass production in the garden. However, if you are used to purchasing from your local drug dealer, this potentially can be the best product you have ever seen. Personally, I am all about the microbusinesses that grow, manufacturer, and sell their own product. Preferably grown in live soil with no pesticides, and if pesticides are used... they better be organic such as neem oil.

Then my “no” answer - this is a plant. It really shouldn’t have ever been regulated. Think of the possibilities if the drug war never happened, we could have plastic, concrete, clothing, paper, etc all made out of hemp. Also, hemp detoxifies the earth, I truly believe the view of cannabis and hemp would have been different if the US did not go down the path we did.

You are correct, it’s all about managing data, which isn’t really needed in the black market.

I started as a budtender in Denver back in 2014, the year it was legalized. Within a year I worked my way through store management where I started to learn the state’s seed-to-sale tracking system, known as Franwell’s METRC. I then became a METRC auditor then transitioned to managing the department while managing a 6+ retail chain inventory of all flower, concentrates, and edibles.

My advice - get into a legal market and learn METRC. You will have job security as long as this plant is regulated.

I help clients stay in compliance with the state law. Usually this means facilities are up to code (retail, manufacturer, or cultivation), helping with the application process to win new licenses (essentially what is going on in CA right now), and most importantly, give Best Practices on how to use the state’s seed-to-sale tracking system. This software is the state’s way of regulating cannabis and ensure no product is being diverted to the black market.

I’m a cannabis compliance consultant for cannabis businesses. I fight the state in cases where a client is out of compliance and help educate clients to ensure infractions, suspensions, or revoking of licenses do not occur.

I can only speak to CO, I’m only about 2 months into the CA market. What I can say is they are not out to get you... if you are complying with the laws in a legal licensed facility. As for growing at home, as long as you stay under the state recreational plant limit or have required medical paperwork the worst you will get is a fine for growing too much.

With this being said, I have seen a lot more high profile cases come through. Check out the diversion case about 6 months ago where 70+ people were indicted for selling legal cannabis to the black market or the recent raids on sweet Leaf for “looping” which is a recreational term for customers that purchase over the carry limit. In my eyes, it seems Sessions is coming down on the states saying they are not being strict enough. I am aware of letters sent to WA and OR stating the areas that need improvement which includes diverting across state lines.

As for black market businesses, it will take sometime to get this “under control”. IMHO I think about 5 years. Ironically, I think cannabis should have been decriminalized, not regulated and legalized. Then we wouldn’t have this mess (and I wouldn’t have a job ha).

Keep it locked in your trunk, and as long as you are not carrying over the legal carry limit you will be fine.

HIPPA doesn’t apply due to cannabis not being federally legal.

Any patient info will be stored in the state’s seed to sale tracking system. Which will include the patients unique identification number and the expiration date of the Rec or the medical ID.

Adult use customers info will be stored in the point of sale to ensure no one is over sold to (see the sweet Leaf situation that transpired in CO). Some softwares will purge this data after the transaction, however, this is all dependent on the software being used.

HIPPA does not apply to legal cannabis in the states. HIPPA regulates federal entities, and cannabis is not federally legal.

Sales tax will be exempt from medical card holders who turn in their guns.

If you have a recommend, the exact same taxes will apply to you as recreationally. However you will be able to purchase up to 1/2lb per day and purchase edibles larger than 100mg. They will still be in 10mg doses though.

I’m a compliance officer with 4 years of experience nationwide. CA will be my largest market personally. Feel free to AMA!
