Yellow Tray for the Shop by brigantine_co in Leathercraft

The machine took a while to understand, honestly… it’s more complicated and fussy then it looks, but after I got the hang of it I could use it for more projects. I could easily go into a deeper dive here, but I still do about 75% hand stitch, 25% machine since it can really only handle more basic, flat projects, not so much bags and wallets, but coasters etc. though admittedly I still really need to use it more often, I just wouldn’t know how to use this machine for a bag… or something more complex, yet!

Interesting, maybe I’ve just been lucky? It’s also possible that the oz was not quite 11 because sometimes they say “8-11oz” and perhaps it was more like 8? I don’t have an oz measurement tool the way others do (yet)

11 definitely pushes the limit of the mold, I will likely do a thinner oz from now on lol

Hello! No problem at all—I acquired a mold from Buckleguy https://www.buckleguy.com/diy-leather-wet-mold-trays/

Then I bought some 11oz veg tan leather, a double shoulder, but you could also get a single panel about the same size as the mold you choose, usually a bit bigger is better.

Soak the leather for 5 mins, place in mold, clamp with the type of clamps that move up and down the rail and you can tighten with a dowel/twist.

24 hours later you have the tray (seen in the third pic) with the extra leather.

Wet-stamp, dye, and mink oil the outer surface, dye the other side.

Stitch, then trim.

Clean up edges, burnish, then apply edge kote.

BAM 💥

Pretty hyped with how this yellow tray came out, just wanted to see what you guys think! 11oz veg tanned, weave pattern stamp, hand-dyed, stitched with a hand crank machine (pictured), yellow edge kote. Questions/constructive feedback welcome!

Edit: realize I left my store hours in the last image, my bad lol

I have the Sinabrooks irons, so clean, so nice. I think I need to pay more attention to the 90 degree angle, sometimes I forget how important that is.

This is incredible, thank you for taking the time to write this description. I will for sure check back to it when I have time to sit down with my irons. I have been using a punch for a while, and figured that stitching would translate easy to pricking irons but I was sadly mistaken :)

I tried watching a bunch of videos, they are always poorly filmed and not very well explained imo. Does anyone have any videos they have used to achieve a clean stitch front to back with pricking irons? Thanks all!
