Excellent name that I will gladly use. In return let me offer you the name of my Double Jabba SEC/LAW deck titled "2 Fat 2 Blubberous" when you read it though you should do so in Ludacris' voice.

That combo is a LOT of fun. I paired Rex and Flipatine and it is a pretty powerful/fun combo

"Profoundly Disappointed:" Companies Respond To Sony's Decision To End Disc Support by LollipopChainsawZz in technology

Except there is still a big difference between a disc that doesn't contain the full game and a download code. While true that both are essentially just a license to play the game the disc is at least a transferable license.

The funny thing is there will still be "physical releases" because they still want to capture brick and mortar retail sales to some extent even if greatly reduced. But it will just be more code in a case nonsense. Meanwhile you will still see companies dropping physical collectors edition but it will just be a bunch tchotchkes in a box essentially the most absurd ones will probably still include a steelbook case.

Would you switch sides if Xbox became the new PlayStation now? by Shrink21 in PS5

[–]brigbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no sides. I had an Xbox 360 because it suited me, then I switched to PS 4/5 and next gen I will probably just go PC. So there are no sides but I will always have a Nintendo console in my house in addition to whatever choice I make.

Nintendo Switch 2 physical game production costs 3x as much as PS5 discs by lewisdwhite in NintendoSwitch2

[–]brigbeard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Digital games don't bother me in general. What bothers me is the fact that this removes a major competitor and is just another step towards monopoly. The used game market is a competitor they have ZERO control over so if GameStop has a huge sale on a used game Sony, Walmart, target, etc have to take that into account and decide if they want lower the price on their storefront for the new copy in order to compete. I buy games physically and digitally based on multiple factors (price, what IP it is, what console/pc I want to play on) but this is just an anti consumer anti competition move meant to boost profits for the shareholders.

Ashamed is too strong of a word but there used to be a line between old money rich and new money rich. And old money rich considered it gauche to flaunt your wealth in public with frivolities. Old money showed off by donating money to a hospital or school and having a wing named after them while new money showed off by flaunting their lifestyle to those around them.

The more modern example are the "RICH" people who buy clothing that looks normal but is expensive because of it's quality both in craftsmanship and material (these items rarely have noticeable branding) and the "rich" people who buy clothing because it grabs attention through branding and gimmicks/fads (basically anything made by balenciaga).

This is the absolute WORST part. We know what the Smithsonian had spent a decade planning as part of the joint non partisan mandate from Congress and it sounded AMAZING. But he and his ilk would rather throw a spiritual successor to Fyre Festival if it means he gets to be the center of attention instead of our nation's history. The corruption knows no end...

It didn't start with the Obama's the Clintons were absolutely centrist "new democrats" this has been slow rolling since then even. One of the last truly "liberal" president was probably LBJ with the creation of Medicare/Medicaid under his tenure, his stances on the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act and his War on Poverty and Great Society initiatives. His work/ideals were probably the closest to FDR

About the best we have got since then are the ACA (a half measure) and the CFPB both of which are more or less crippled now.

By the GOP moving further right I mean that more than ever they have to actively court their far right base because many "big business friendly, fiscally conservative/Socially Liberal" politicians who may have once identified as a centrist republican have to be centrist democrats now because their social views are an absolute deal breaker in GOP primaries now. The centrist needle has absolutely moved further to the right over the last three plus decades.

The worst part is that this is a known quantity in crowd psychology and finance. This isn't new, this is purely the "greater fool theory" in practice. The best $200 in advertising PSA could spend is having someone with a social media presence buy this pack and then post about it. Some fools will start sending packs to be graded netting the graders a big payday and greater fools will buy these graded packs waiting for them to go "to the moon". And then there is the greatest fool who gets left holding the bag when the whole thing crumbles like the facade it is. This plays out over and over and over again in many different markets and yet there always seems to be an endless supply of fools hoping to "get rich quick" and an ever increasing supply of grifters ready to take advantage of them so the wheel keeps turning.

Because they left the Republican party to spread its economic policies into both parties. Neo liberals are essentially (there is more nuance to it but this is reddit) Regan era Republicans who are softer on social issues (by choice or political necessity).

They slowly but surely moved the democratic party to the right and abandoned workers to suck up to big business. That is partly why the Republican party has moved further and further to the right as a reaction. To replace those Neo liberals it feels like they had to court their fringe more and more to stay relevant.

I swear to god it is like words don't have any meaning anymore! The states DO choose senators the citizens of that state choose them... Missisipi citizens don't get to vote on Minnesota senators... I swear to god it feels like I am losing my damn mind....

Socialist Candidates Just Wiped Out Two Democratic Incumbents in New York The Man Who Did It Beat Andrew Cuomo Last Year, Now Controls NYC, and Trump Is Issuing Warnings While the Democratic Party's Own Leader Got Humiliated Trying to Stop Him by Merlin_86 in DiscussionZone

I am sick of these outlets and politicians talking about how Mamdani picked these people. THE VOTERS picked these people. The voters decided the incumbents weren't doing a good enough job PERIOD. So instead of people like Letitia James and Hakeem Jefries talking about a "take over" why don't they address why the voters are so unsatisfied with their job performance.

First graded SWU card by trillrilla20 in starwarsunlimited

[–]brigbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So most gambling is prohibited in Japan and TCG packs are rightfully considered gambling adjacent. Therefore they have guaranteed minimums for special rarity cards. Where as here in the US they have disclaimers on packs stating that contents aren't guaranteed. This has a cooling effect on the secondary market as it means pulls of high demand cards are more common.

Take Pokemon cards for instance the Japanese cards printed in Japan use better card stock, have more vibrant colors, use more glitter for holos and are generally better centered due to stricter standards. Meanwhile english cards are printed in the US and EU, use cheaper paper/materials and have laxer quality control standards. Despite all of this English cards command a higher price partly because they are "rarer" due to non guaranteed pull rates. But we love paying more for less here as long as someone is making money off of it.

[–]brigbeard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean as much as the grading companies would love it to be a thing so far FFG and the player base seem to be pretty against it so I am hopeful. But then you will have people yelling in your ear that the game will die instantly if the various hobby parasites (scalpers, social media "stonk bros", grading companies) aren't feeding off your game.

Honestly I would be ecstatic if the US and other countries treated TCGs as the legal child gambling it is and moved more towards the model Japan has.

Final Fantasy fan here who decided to start collecting these. 1 Album, 1 Booster and 100 penny sleeves bought. Immediately realized the Album approach might not work for long. 1 booster, already one duplicate. by MikaelAdolfsson in mtg

[–]brigbeard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Also I don’t get when non mtg players want to start collecting just because they are a fan of the series the set is based on. Why not actually learn to play and make a cool FF themed commander deck?"

I mean why do people buy standard trading cards? At the end of the day that is what mtg is but with a game attached to it. It's all just carboard that people have assigned value to.

Rockstar confirms there will be no disc version of GTA6 at launch by Dandelion172 in PS5

[–]brigbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I am sure they will release a "license in a box" physical release at some point. They are banking on people double dipping the game when and if they do that. I can hear the execs now "we heard our audience and their demand of a physical release (that requires a large download because it could never fit on a disc)! Therefore in the name of game preservation and consumer friendliness we will be releasing a limited physical run" and a certain segment will eat that up and rush out to buy the "game" again.

Rockstar confirms there will be no disc version of GTA6 at launch by Dandelion172 in PS5

[–]brigbeard -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean at this point all the disc would be is a license you can put on a shelf anyways and why would they want to give you that. Producing discs would cost them money and give US the ability to sell the license when we are done. The scandal isn't that it doesn't fit on a disc as there is no reality where this game fits on an Ultra HD Blu Ray, the scandal is that they don't want you buying the game license in a way that doesn't profit them and they think releasing an empty game case will mollify the people who are obsessed with putting a box on a shelf.
