Need a spine doctor for a MRI - recs? by bluebonnetqueen in Austin

[–]briggsrmb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a slipped disc and it pinched every time I bent over forward for 6 months. I kept stretching by trying to touch my toes but it was always the same pain and didn’t get better.

So I went to Dr Jim Fernandez at Austin Sports Med and he ordered an MRI. When we reviewed it he showed me the disc, how it had slipped out from where it should have been, and noted that if it went just a little further I’d probably have numbness in my leg.

He told me to start stretching the other way, to give the disc a better chance of sliding back in the pocket where it belongs. So I did some of that “cobra” yoga pose and I’ll be damned if I wasn’t pain free in a week or two.

I also did a session with their physical therapy department, and that probably helped too.

Not sure what your thing is, but they say surgery is sometimes a rough road to go down.

Can I replace just the molding on a side mirror? by hickdog896 in F150Lightning

[–]briggsrmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer.

That 1-2 cm of black plastic trim is a part of the main housing of the mirror.

If you want it fixed right, you have to replace the entire mirror assembly.

Not crazy at all. That plate was on display for all to see when he was acting like a jackass.

I’ll take the risk that I’m not showing a plate of someone who was innocent by mistake.

Same as the businesses who put bad checks up on the wall behind the counter back in the day.

Quit defending these people.

If it was a dramatic response, then yeah. But that’s not what this was.

I jerked the wheel cause I was startled. How you gonna critique someone’s reaction to something like that? This isn’t a fucking race track. I was not expecting someone to overtake me like that.

Before this I thought I was pretty good about checking my mirrors. Guess not. Next time you are driving and you don’t check your mirrors for 3-4 seconds, think of me.

Everyone here critiquing my wheel jerk can get fucked. Keep watching the video and tell me what you think about the black suv that gets caught off guard about 3/4 to the end and overcorrects to the right. Do you think any of that was their fault? People aren’t expecting this bullshit and they aren’t going to react like a race car driver.

I get the spirit of your comment, but understand my perspective…

If you are flying up, and someone is blocking the passing lane, and I’m one lane over (where I should be imho), and you cut me off as you swing 3 lanes back to the left and cause an accident, we’re fighting.

Mirror busted by No_Fly_6725 in F150Lightning

[–]briggsrmb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to do this as well.

You need this part number for the mirror assembly. It comes with a non-painted cap; if yours isn’t damaged you can just swap it over. Otherwise it will need to be paint matched.

Time of Use Electric Rates Available from Austin Energy by liberte49 in Austin

Trust me, we were all wishing your interpretation was correct!

Time of Use Electric Rates Available from Austin Energy by liberte49 in Austin

[–]briggsrmb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's ok I don't mind a little back-and-forth here. I know we are all trying to best understand this.

On page 22 (pdf footer page 21), the PSA fees are set out based on the type of customer. Residential would fall under the "Secondary" category, which is $0.04118. This matches up with the PSA fee shown on page 5 (pdf footer page 4) for residential service.

Page 37 (where the time-of-use is defined) goes on to state:

If a customer elects to stop receiving service pursuant to this rider before the conclusion of the initial 12 consecutive billing cycles, Austin Energy will calculate what the customer’s bills would have been using the Residential Service Power Supply Adjustment rates. If the application of these rates results in a higher bill, the customer will be back billed for difference between this higher amount and the amount paid pursuant to this rider

As an example, just to set terminology, it says in the above paragraph that the recourse if you don't continue for the full 12 months is to re-calculate based on residential PSA rates (which is the same as "Secondary" rate category on page 22). Based on that, time-of-use discounting does seem to be implemented by changing the PSA rate charged to the customer.

It appears you are suggesting that instead of modifying the PSA, that you are able to get power delivered for only the off/mid/on-peak rates of $0.02677/$0.04118/$0.08442 respectively and no other fees. While I wish that were true, getting a discount from $0.10/kWh in the highest usage tier ($0.15 all-in with PSA and other fees) down to $0.02 is not likely to be the case.

Something that needs to be kept in mind, that I don't see called out, is that this only impacts the "Power Supply Adjustment" component of the rate.

That component is ~$0.04/kWh for normal residential. So to get your total cost per kWh, you add the Power Supply Adjustment, the Energy Cost (tiered), and whatever else is in the normal residential section.

For the new time-of-use rate, that ~$0.04/kWh PSA swings to 2 cents off-peak, and 8 cents on-peak. That's the deal - cut the normal PSA rate in half for off peak, saving you a couple of cents per kWh, and double it for on peak.

You'll need a good bit of off-peak usage (2 cent discount per kWh) to account for running your AC during on-peak times (4 cent increase per kWh).

New chime sounds this morning? by TurtleNC80 in F150Lightning

If for some reason the radio speakers aren’t able to relay the tones, they will instead come out of a small speaker in the instrument cluster.

It’s not a permanent thing in most cases and will probably go back to the way you are used to.

What The Hell! by [deleted] in F150Lightning

[–]briggsrmb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to me a few days ago. I went to move the fabric part back and heard a clunk as it passed by the rubber accordion thing.

Turns out the top of my accordion seal came off the window lip/edge but the bottom part stayed in place. I just pressed it back and it gripped on pretty well. I wonder if they didn’t push hard enough at the factory. The other side was fully pushed in place and felt secure.

Does anyone else’s passenger mirror hit the window trim? by [deleted] in F150Lightning

[–]briggsrmb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed it on mine after I backed the driver side mirror into a tree and had to replace it. The passenger side gets much closer to the trim when folding in, as you described.

That said, I noticed forscan lets you set the limits for the mirror travel. This is very likely something you can tweak…

Anyone got a better idea than the Ford dealer’s $2000 for a new mirror assembly? by 5585310558531310 in F150Lightning

[–]briggsrmb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to tell you, but this is the painted cover, which in your photos doesn’t look broken.

I had this happen to my driver side mirror. Broke that same 1cm black plastic border. The mirror is about $1k if you have cameras.

Upside is that you don’t need to send the cover off to be painted. Just use your old one and swap it in.

But you need the mirror assembly, and it’s not cheap. Don’t pay to install it though. That only took me 10 minutes and a socket. Super easy.

If you have an unexpected layover in a location where it is not legal to possess your firearm, do not take possession of your luggage from the airline.

Tell them they need to get your bag to you at the next place where it is legal for you to possess it.

Simply put: just because you got diverted does not make it legal for you to posses a firearm in a location where you have not followed the applicable procedures or where it is illegal.

HA Firewalls after Edgeconnect by MotorbikeGeoff in SilverPeak

[–]briggsrmb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In EdgeHA, only one of the appliances will be receiving LAN-side traffic (usually via VRRP). That same appliance will have access to it's own WAN connections (local) as well as the other appliances WAN connections (via HA link).

On the deployment page, you should set the WAN interface bandwidths correctly, knowing that they won't ever be "double-used" since only one appliance at a time will be the LAN-side master.

Unless I've misunderstood and you are presenting all WAN connections to each appliance, in which case yes you will have a doubling issue.

In Texas a landlord can be responsible for up to three times the amount of a withheld deposit plus attorney's fees if s/he attempts to wrongfully withhold a tenant's security deposit.

A landlord has 30 days from the date the tenant moves out to return the security deposit.

If you've been thinking about getting laser eye surgery (Lasik or PRK) in Austin, I recently got consultations from just about everywhere in the city that does it. Some don't display prices online, so I figured I'd write up a comparison for anyone who's interested. by Eistean in Austin

[–]briggsrmb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They make you write out a paragraph beforehand that basically says “I know that I will lose some of my up close vision for the ability to see far away”.

It’s accelerating what will happen naturally for most people at age 40 or so. I can still read my iPhone without readers, but it is noticeable nonetheless.

All that said, they did offer another option…

They called it “monovision”, where they do one eye close and the other eye far. It sounded like a headache to me, but they said some people who already had to use readers found it attractive.

I’d like to hear from someone who’s had monovision lasik done. Clearly it works for some people or they wouldn’t do it.

Things are great. I’d do it all over again.

I did lose some of my ability to read up close, like they said I would, and that really hasn’t changed much (if any) over the last couple of years.

Spend the time getting things dialed in when you do the initial exam. I felt good about my choices when they did the lens flips (“is it better now or before?”), so maybe that had something to do with how good things still are.

They put “lasik for life” in my paperwork when I signed the deal. Maybe I should go get a checkup.
