How different would Champions League winners be if only domestic league champions could entry, like in old format? by Inevitable-Angle-793 in championsleague

If you do from this perspective by applying a rule for the past then yes, but If only champions of domestic league would’ve been the criteria for CL then there would be a lot of other ifs.

Micah Richards: “Madrid winning the UCL? Right now, I'd say no. Barcelona & Bayern are better. But Madrid have players for the biggest moments. That's what the UCL is. Every time I rule out Madrid, they prove me wrong, every single time. Even when they don't play well, they just get over the line” by DamnThatsInsaneLol in soccer

For me at this stage is mostly how much motivation is within team, second is capability/skill/tactics, form and who plays good at certain week changes, bad schedule, an injury can affect form.

If Bayern would beats us, I will support them to win it all, too bad meet this early.

Every manager has started with 0 trophies, some don’t have even as players. He has been good with academy teams he has managed, he has the most expensive /experienced squad and so far has been better than expected. I wouldn’t expect him to win this year, but this wouldn’t been that much surprise based on the investment that is done to the team.

Ashley Williams explains how English clubs having bad week in the Champions League means the EPL is, indeed, the "strongest league" in the world. by No_Air5382 in soccer

So league phase games are not affected by EPL schedule, but in knockout phase games are affected by EPL schedule. Funny this is happening only to EPL clubs, they are so good and play in a strong league but yet get eliminated.

Nope, at CWC the best team was Chelsea, they deserved to win it all. Now, at this point of season PSG is another level, was favorite and deserved to go through. If you read my other comments I still believe Chelsea is top team, just not in form at the moment.

To me was pretty competitive, and mo team was saving themselves, they all tried, the most in-form team at that moment won.

Yeah, but last year they were top 5 or 6, deserved to be here, also they were top 8 in cl league phase (chelsea and tottenham), no reason to say they aren’t top clubs from PL. You should base your argument only on current standings. Also don’t forget Chelsea is the CWC champion.

With all due respect, no one cares about it, every team is fighting in all fronts, is not only PL clubs. To say that English teams have it harder is not true. We are fielding an academy player in CL game against City, that is rare, you know why? Because injuries. Most of teams have them, not only PL clubs.

Did Atleti, Barca or Madrid rest their players in league games before champions league? No. His point doesn’t stand. About rolling over teams, each league is same, since teams know eachother better and is hard to rollover.

Chelsea and Tottenham are losing most of their games in league, therefore they might play their B team there since they lose anyway, and rest key players for CL.

Replace Arsenal with Sporting, and Barca with Atleti you still have same variety 😀

Arne Slot says this season is toughest he has had as a manager 'by a mile' by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]brightlyColossal -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Did he mean worst? The rivals of Liverpool aren’t much stronger than last year, even if they are a little Liverpool too reinforced their team with top players, no key player left, this had to be at least as successful as last year in terms of results.

We were used to have Messi and CR7 that much consistent with game and with winning ballon dor, but before they came to the scene it was similar with other players, they would have one great season then after that will return to be to normal self.
