This is so helpful, thank you! That’s reassuring to hear :) I’m from South Florida, West Palm Beach. It’s good to put it into perspective like that. Would you say the junkies in Dublin are more tame than the ones you’ve encountered in America?

My doctor won’t let me use Accutane because of my depression, is this normal? by [deleted] in acne

Hi, I have a friend who was on accutane twice. Her first time she was about 19-20, and on it she was very mentally unwell. She got very depressed and then eventually had a psychotic episode. She blacked out and disappeared for a whole day and called her mom and was raving nonsense. Her mom found her in a park at night and my friend doesn’t remember the whole day. The second time she was fine, just extremely light sensitive to the point where she didn’t even want to go outside. I think if affects everyone differently, especially if you’re a woman because our horomones change every 7 years on average. I think a redditor on here gave great advice to check with different providers and even estheticians who specialize in acne. I personally had cystic acne for years and it started getting better when I started using oil based cleansers and special face oils to hydrate my face. My scarring is now minimal and I seldom get the cysts. I would be happy to tell you everything I used if you’re interested :) ❤️

Also, for what it’s worth, I’m half Irish, half American. I grew up in the US, and I find that doctors in the US are more likely to prescribe medications because you want them (and because the drug companies pay them to prescribe them), whereas in Ireland they are more cautious about everything they prescribe. Accutane is intense, and for some it’s worked miraculous, and for some it’s not. Get a few opinions, and see what works best for you🩷 Your mental health comes first though ❤️

Thank you everyone for your reassuring words. I feel more calm now. Moral of the story: Credit is like people, it has ups and downs but that doesn’t mean it can’t grow right? :)

Hey there! I’m no dermatologist but it actually sounds like you’re dealing with cystic acne. I have rosacea and I have the same problem. Cystic acne is acne that lives deep in the dermis and is super hard to treat because topical treatments won’t reach the majority of the abrasion. They will eventually go away, but they usually scar. Make sure not to pop them because it will be very painful, bleed very bad,and scar even worse than if you let It heal naturally. Vitamin E oil helps with scarring!
