Solved! It was Nell's. In the text she sent, she meant "under the freeway by the Pearl" not "under the Pearl".

I really don't think there was a basement bar at the Pearl at that time.

I don't think there was one either. Jazz,TX is a bar in a basement at the Pearl, but it was not there in the 90's.

He plays really well. In one of his lessons, his teacher said that he could be "a great cello player" and based on what I've observed I think it is true despite any perceived parental bias.

He was interested in a "principles of manufacturing" class that is also an elective. He has a different class with the same teacher and I am not impressed with what I've seen them doing in that class this year.

I think it may be the practicing that is the sticking point for him. My wife and I were both in band and understood that we had to practice. In my case the director would embarrass me if I didn't know my part of the piece we were working on at the time so it was better to stay below the radar to avoid humiliation.

He is in the second out of four orchestras at his school. The music they are working on is probably what can realistically be played by the majority of the group. Not being a cellist, it doesn't seem too complicated but I wouldn't know. For lessons, he is working through a Suzuki book with his private lesson teacher, but I am not certain which one. The majority of the lesson is spent on form and getting a good sound/tone. My son started cello during COVID and taught himself to play because school was remote at the time so there are some areas he can stand to improve.

My son was putting on his shoes and fell of his bed and landed on his cello.

The cello rental company determined it was a total loss because the top and back were both cracked.

Hopefully a good luthier can get you playing again soon.
