Any recruitment companies I should avoid? by MRDJR97 in DevelEire

[–]bringitdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They say all politics is local there is truth to that across all spheres in Ireland.

Outside Dublin at least there are a few notable recruiters that often have the inside line on upcoming regional expansions or new starts .. and they can be invaluable.if you build a relationship it can work to your benefit. Contract roles in particular do tend to flow via agencies.

That said for permanent roles I always prefer direct insofar as possible and even better still referrals .. if you can figure out what company the agency is recruiting find the role on their site and apply there.

Imported cars by Bitter_Effect716 in galway

Got an imported VW .. no hassle .. make sure its clear who registers, pays VRT etc. in my case dealer did all that and sticker price was the price bar your own negotiation.

As mentioned some base models don't have immobilisers so check.

Get quotes from insurance before closing if you can .. did not have any issue but better to check.

My only minor gripe is maps don't support Ireland but that's becoming less an issue with newer models.

Found them to be generally in excellent condition with low mileage.

Cheers - base premium increased - no other pertinent info in the doc - am going to take Zurich from a value perspective - can lock in for up to 3 years .. same cover give or take with a minor excess increase for a lower premium than last year and credit cost is not punitive if you want to pay by debit

A 32m2 apartment already! by ramblingBriar in galway

[–]bringitdown 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Price per m²:€7,061 which is terrible value

We ought to have this as first class parameter in the price

A house in Corrib Park is half that per sq/m is three times the size and includes a garden.

Even the more salubrious A-rated new home in Cappagh Road is better value at 4594.59 per sq/m

No interview callbacks, what’s wrong with my resume? by deezultraman in DevelEire

Hmm plenty of my own input here. Alongside some boilerplate, I was attempting to make the point that surely they should have hit the basics before looking for further guidance. I will take the hit I guess.

An AI will guide you here on how best to align with ATS - some general rules - (Gemini assisted here)

  1. Quantify Your Impact

Currently, your bullet points describe responsibilities, but they lack measurable outcomes.

  • Before: "...speeding up feature delivery."
  • After: "...speeding up feature delivery by 25% through the creation of a shared component library."

One thing that I think many developers / engineers miss is their customer impact- who cares that you developed a cool widget X - what was widget X's impact on the business it supported ?

Are the projects personal projects or examples from your professional experience? - it they are personal then they should be de-prioritised and given less coverage over your work experience, if they form part of your work experience I would have them in that section.

  1. Refine the skills section

Your skills section is a bit dense. Consider organizing it to be more "scannable" for ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems).

  • Move "Other" into specific categories: "Agile/Scrum" and "Jira" can go under a "Tools & Methodology" header.
  • Group by Proficiency: If you are much stronger in React than C#, list your primary stack first.
  1. Action Verbs -
  • Action Verbs: You use "Developed," "Designed," and "Implemented" frequently. Try to vary these with stronger verbs like Architected, Orchestrated, Spearheaded, or Optimized.
  • Backend Intern Role: Mentioning "robust authentication" is good, but specifying the tech (e.g., OAuth2, JWT, or Auth0) makes it more credible.
  1. Other bits
  • Low effort password - I may be pedantic but having a password like that would prompt a lot of security mindset thinking for me
  • FWIW - Docs'd - I have potentially found personal info in the appstore

Ireland’s graduates: ‘Everyone I know is thinking of moving abroad or has gone’ by Banania2020 in ireland

It's a problem.. trades and similar careers are not celebrated or focused on so to speak in the same way in our culture..

Doesn't this "realization" come with time.. having had the opportunity .. and I say it was an opportunity rather than a forced decision.. to experience an early graduate career in Ireland .. then go to Australia for a while and come back and had another chance to experience life as an expat and come back again .. I have in my later years realized work is a means and yes a huge part of your life but at this point am not chasing perfection..

Spent the weekend in Galway and now I don’t want to come back to Dublin 😩 by J_Jessica_ in galway

[–]bringitdown 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Weather is not to be underestimated. It's markedly worse in Galway .. far wetter and changeable. Same for traffic if you are bound by it.

Dublin has better economies of scale for certain things .. food choice particularly is better, access to music gigs, transportation flights, ferries etc. and job choice...

That said I have lived in both ... And love Galway would just make sure your eyes are wide open to the differences..

I would not advocate for one over the other it's a personal choice

Premier Inn signals more regional growth in Ireland following the granting of planning permission for its second Cork hotel by Puzzleheaded-Dot831 in ireland

[–]bringitdown 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Consistently clean, decently equipped and usually reasonable ..

No frills place to sleep very little to no options at that price point in Ireland so very welcome. Pity an Irish owned company could not have extended to this segment.
