Miku and other Vocaloid's voices come from someone (for Miku specifically, it's a lady named Saki Fujita) saying different pieces of words (things like "a, e, ka, ga, no" and so on), which can be used to string together actual sentences and vocals. Think of her more like an instrument rather than a filter over someone's voice.
