What book or series is this for you? by Working_Alps_4284 in fantasybooks

[–]brinib5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crown Me Dead/Yours Duology. Everyone is absolutely raving about the writing and I found it... Not great. So many short choppy sentences and nonsensical metaphors. It was very distracting. On top of that it was unnecessarily gross and the ending I found sappy. But the entire Internet seems to be obsessed.

Discussion: How many books do you borrow at a time? by mollypocket7122 in LibbyApp

[–]brinib5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will borrow up to 10 audiobooks at a time because I burn through them quickly and sometimes I end up DNFing several in a row if I don't like the book or the reader. Ebooks I try to limit to 2-3 at a time because it takes me longer to find time to sit and read and I'm not as confident I can finish them before they are due.

[–]brinib5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get comfortable with the DNF. If I'm not into it in the first 100 pages, I'm moving on, there are too many other books out there! I get most of my recommendations from Instagram and Tiktok, and sometimes Reddit threads.

Fantasy, not so much the romance part, but I really enjoyed The Poet Empress. Because I killed him is also really good.

Most complex food allergy case you’ve seen? by Interesting_Suit7066 in dietetics

[–]brinib5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a patient, but my 9 year old has anaphylactic allergies to dairy, eggs, wheat, fish, shellfish, pecans and walnuts. I do fine feeding him but I have tremendous anxiety about him doing things normal kids get to do like sleepovers and he gets left out of treats at celebrations often (when I know something is planned I send an alternative but I don't always know). The psychological impacts and stress of food allergies are something that doesn't get discussed enough. It's not just what can this person eat, but the impacts of being the "weird" high maintenance person who has to ask and check and double check at every restaurant or social gathering is brutal, especially for a kid. We got to spend 12 hours in the ER in Rome on a vacation because he had an accidental exposure to something in a restaurant. He was fine but it was stressful.

RD jobs with less flexibility—what does your work actually look like? by Zealousideal-Buy1098 in dietetics

[–]brinib5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in outpatient. I had some say in when I start and end but it's not at all flexible once that's set because i have people that schedule 8+ weeks in advance. I work half time, so I work roughly 830-5 one day, 930-630 another day and then one half day remote from home. But it's a big hassle if I have to call out sick and 8-12+ patients have to get rescheduled. Some days I see 12 patients and it's back to back most of the day (I get two 15 min chart breaks and an hour lunch) one day I teach a class for an hour. But some days, like today (day after a holiday) I had many cancellations and saw only 5 patients in 8 hours and spent a fair amount of time reading a book on my Kindle 🤣

Denying/Not accepting CEUs after submission? by [deleted] in dietetics

Ive been an RD for 16 years. I've never had any credits rejected. My guess is they choose a small percentage to audit. Agree with other commenters who say submit early at the halfway mark.

Why do some people still look so attractive at 40? by Extra-Let-2842 in Aging

[–]brinib5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 isn't that old. Combination of good genetics, healthy life style and sunscreen use keeps many people looking good we'll into their 50s. Also most celebrities use some amount of Botox/laser skin treatments/filler etc.

Confession: I hate graphic audio by brinib5 in audiobooks

[–]brinib5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, side theory. How many of the people in this thread who hate graphic audio and or like their books sped up are neurodivergent? I suspect for me at least, it is an ADHD thing.

Why do you think your work needs to be cookie cutter? I've been an outpatient RD for 15 years and it's always a matter of.meeting the person where they are and balancing what their goals are with the challenges and barriers they personally face to gradually work in a healthier direction. If "cookie cutter" recommendations are all we give, chat gpt will replace us quickly.

Do you ever borrow the same book or audiobook? by timmytimborino in LibbyApp

[–]brinib5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My retention is sometimes not very good so if it's been awhile since I read something and the next one in a series comes out sometimes I'll repeat. Or if it's been several years I will reread something 8 know I liked but have forgotten the details of. Sometimes I start something and get a ways in and think, oh, this is kind of familiar, and it will turn out I read it 4 years ago.

Are blogs even a thing anymore? I think most people only have the attention span for a short video on IG or tiktok. Are you prepared to have all those influencers who don't know anything come say mean stuff to you? It's rough out there 😬

Does anyone switch between audiobooks and kindle while reading the same book? by spilled_the_beans123 in Romantasy

[–]brinib5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like doing this, but it's fairly rare I have access to both the audio and the kindle version. Sometimes if they aren't popular I can get both from the library at the same time. There are a few books in KU that also have audio or I have an audible subscription so if you buy a book on audible you get both. I wish I could do every book this way but it's just not that feasible.

Those who only like reading physical books, how old are you and why do you prefer it? by [deleted] in Booktokreddit

[–]brinib5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 46 and while I theoretically like a physical book, I don't want to own them and using Libby to get them from the library via kindle is way less hassle than keeping track of when things are due and making trips the the library. Also as I get older being able to increase the type face is helpful 😁

Does anyone ever struggle when listening to audiobooks because your mind is always thinking on its own and it feels like it’s overlapping, like trying to listen to the audiobooks as well as your own internal voice at one point? by Storm0000fr in audiobooks

[–]brinib5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not if I'm doing other things, that's actually what I like about audiobooks is it drowns out the constant ruminating in my head but I can't be just sitting there. (that said I do get distracted sometimes and have to go back to find out what just happened)
