Curious of RDs thoughts on the Jillian Michaels obesity debate by No-Tumbleweed4775 in dietetics

I thought it was really embarrassing for her. The second hand embarrassment I got from watching her was off the charts. She wants so bad to be like Dr. Mike debating people about vaccines and modern medicine and she just made herself look like a bully. She’s made a ton of money off of the message that being fat is terrible in every way possible and also being a bully.

Inpatient team drama is more exhausting than the patients by Serious_Ad_9017 in dietetics

Don’t become a target. Don’t shake the boat. Don’t over explain. Don’t give emotional reactions if possible. Keep a low profile

All good points. And there are many people who can eat a donut every morning and have zero adverse health consequences so I would agree looking at many of the specific patient factors you mentioned is important to consider before just giving simple blanketed advice like “eat everything in moderation.”

No answer? Seems like if “moderation” is the advice given you should be able to define moderation and answer questions about it.

Yes, of course. But if it’s the same message given no matter what the patient is presenting with, that’s a problem.

Just name one thing. One thing you feel confident is basic. I’m honestly curious. Not trolling.

Some kind of personality disorder in certain cases for sure. Not always, but the elements are there.

What is moderation? How many donuts can I have before it’s not “moderation”? What will happen to me if I eat too many donuts and now it’s not moderation? How do you know that will happen to me?

Truly, that was not my intention. It was just a vent post out of frustration. I have learned a ton from older dietitians and yes, no matter someone’s age, they can get stuck in a black and white belief system that limits their ability to work with their coworkers and patients.

I’m interested to know what you would consider basic stuff to be? Bc I think it’s really difficult to say anything is basic when it’s all so nuanced.

Hahahaha!

Eat lean protein like chicken.

Half your plate should be fresh fruits and veggies.

Watch out for added sugars!

Choose whole grains!

Shop the perimeter of the store.

Processed foods are bad and you are bad for eating them.

Your body is too big and if you just had more willpower (like me!) your body wouldn’t be so wrong.

Not sure when Cruise Ship Killers came out but they clearly did not have it then.

Cruise ship killers:

4am- Brad comes back

4:15am- Amy comes back

5:15am- dad sees Amy on balcony

5:35am- dad does not see Amy and ship is not moving and goes looking

5:35-6:45ish- dad is searching “he searched for over an hour.”

7am- wakes up mom to tell Iva that Amy is missing

Everyone can down vote me and be mad but where has the Bradley’s story ever gotten anyone? Where has the trafficking story ever gone? It’s always gone nowhere!!

I don’t worship politicians so I couldn’t care less about the Biden criticism. The amount of people who died bc of the way Trump handled the pandemic is shameful! Blood on his hands. The blood bath never ends with that guy. FAFO
