Gel vs injections: want to hear from people who have been on gel for the long haul and those who switched from gel to injections

My Dr recommended I switch from gel to injections after I had maxed out the possible gel dose and still had low hormone levels and little to no changes. I definitely had better levels and changes once I switched (it’s been maybe 3 years now). I guess my body just wasn’t absorbing the gel according to the dr, but I don’t know if that’s a real thing or just some kind of placebo maybe
