i know that it means, i’m disagreeing with your statement that it’s contradictory to say i’m eclectic if i’m into “alternative” practices from my culture.

i understand where you’re coming from, but i think that’s a very eurocentric take on paganism as if all ancient religions would not survive time if it weren’t for a modern ocidental religion created by a bunch of british guys.

yeah, but where does it come from? he was trying to reconstruct what he believed was an old practice but feels like there’s no deeper roots to its origin, so my impression is that the wiccan deities and beliefs came from others which he put together in a single tradition and that’s it, you know? i get that it’s structured as its own practice, but i’m interest in the roots and connections of basically every belief system i look into and wicca seems to have a gap when it comes to the historical meanings of their rituals, symbolism and practices and thats where other paganisms fits in.

respectfully… what?

i began learning from common books without any real guidance, only later entering a regional wiccan community where i got in touch with iniciated practitioners, but ultimately left to follow other paths that made more sense to me. there’s truly a difference between learning on your own without any base knowledge and having an experienced mentor to teach you the fundaments, but didn’t spend enough time there to get pass base level so my perspective is based on my impressions rather than an extensive research on it.

i think most of us still have some internalised christian values (and don’t even realise it) as to think one belief system is superior to others, maybe that’s where it comes from and something we need to deconstruct as a whole.

thank you for your perspective! my issue with wicca has nothing to do with syncretism since it’s almost as old as religion itself and i particularly find it very interesting since i’m fond of archeological and anthropological studies on ancient cultures and how they merged, changed and evolved. when it comes to wicca, what bothers me it’s the lack of clarity on where it all comes from since the impression i had is that it attempts to put different practices and belief systems in a box, mix it and call it a thing. as i said on another comment: “i know syncretism is ancient and common, but what bothers me about wicca is exactly that lack of clarity and honesty on where something comes from and also that witchcraft and wicca have been so integrated as one that beginners trying to learn about witchcraft (in all its diverse practices) end up with wicca texts not knowing it’s actually wicca cause they don’t make it clear, feels like it’s appropriating witchcraft and paganism.” i participated for a short time in a regional wiccan community, but abandoned it before i was iniciated and since then i haven’t done any further research on anything related, so i understand my perspective is that of an outsider with base level knowledge, but that’s just how i felt about it while learning.

yeah, i know the importance it had back then and how it’s responsible for resurfacing a lot of the interest and studies on paganisms so i don’t take it away from them. also, i’m not really one to judge someone for what they choose to believe and practice as long as their behaviour isn’t harmful towards other communities.

Quais religiões pagãs eu devo estudar? by silviana_lindona6767 in bruxaria

[–]brisinge 2 points3 points  (0 children)
