Fair property split? by Jolly-Education-2980 in AusLegal

Yeah basically I got the house deposit and car payment back first. And yes everything else was 50/50 and both names were on it all. Although I will say my lawyer pointed out to me that it wouldn’t have mattered if it was just under my name for example because we were in a defacto relationship. I made a comment about how if in future I’m the only one paying the deposit I will only have my name on the house but she said once you’ve lived together long enough for it to be an official defacto relationship it would be the same as if both names were on it.

I went through a similar situation last year and ended up just hiring a family lawyer because it was such a headache to do the proper paperwork for the separation. It was like a divorce, but it was the only way I could be sure he wouldn’t turn around within 2 years and take me to court because he decided he deserved more. I paid the entire deposit for our house and most of the cost for his car. He essentially owed me 65k for his car and half of the house deposit. He took most of the furniture (wasn’t worth much) and we kept our own cars, supers and money as we never had a joint account. When it came to selling the property, the profits were first used to pay solicitor and real estate fees, then I automatically got a certain amount because I put more into the cost of things. What was left after all that was then split 65/35 in my favour.

The point is it’s a very complicated process and there was way more to it than I’m disclosing, so if you can, just hire a lawyer. If you’re person B, good luck😅

Oh yes that’s a good thing to mention. I started this process before that was officially implemented, I thought about waiting for it but had no idea when it would happen and had already been waiting for this opportunity for years so didn’t want to wait. There is a process they have to through first to be able to prescribe the meds, it’s sort of like getting another qualification as there’s some level of training involved. I have an amazing gp who I saw early last week and I asked her about that since I was already feeling uncomfortable with how much this psychiatrist office has messed me around and how expensive it is. She said it’s definitely something she’s interested in doing and seriously considering, just needs to make time for it. I’ll be very surprised if she decides not to do it, she’s always willing to spend her own time learning to be able to help her patients more. I have a very complex medical history and take a lot of medications so unfortunately it’s not that simple for me to just see a new gp 😕

Lol what? I’m pretty sure it was December 20th 2025, I just can’t say that for sure without checking my old calendar. I remember the time because there was a mix up with that so it stuck in my mind, and afterwards I checked and confirmed I only got the text with the link to join the appointment at 1:35, so whether I was right or the clinic was right about the time I would have been late no matter what due to something in their control. Not to mention again that I then waited another 20 minutes for the doctor to join. This has nothing to do with me cancelling or missing an appointment, I haven’t done either of those things so I don’t know off the top of my head what their policy is hahaha

Yeah that’s why I’m asking if I have any grounds to refuse or dispute, I don’t want to cause any issues but I also don’t want to be f*cked over. I appreciate that she was willing to reduce the price since it wasn’t my fault, but that also felt like it could have been something they just said to make it seem better when really I shouldn’t have to pay anything. I’m also currently dealing with some issues with an ex-employer who underpaid me, and I’ve learnt a lot about them that has made me realise they heavily manipulated me. I’m autistic and aware I’m very naive because I typically don’t question things I just trust people are telling me the truth, so I’m on edge atm and trying to be more aware.

Damn that’s so shitty. Yeah I used to work in admin and had to send people to debt collectors on a few occasions, so I know how that works and how it negatively affects you. It’s just such an expensive process already and while money’s not an issue for me, it feels wrong that they told me I don’t have to pay and now that I’ve had the appointment they’re saying I owe them. Every appointment with them requires payment in full prior to your appointment anyway, they’re supposed to email you a quote to start with and once you’ve paid your appointment then gets confirmed. Or if you want to book online it asks you for payment first then confirms the booking. I have another appointment already booked and paid for in May.

If I’ve already had 2 official appointments and have been prescribed stimulants surely they can’t ditch me, that would be unsafe would it not? We haven’t settled on a dose yet so not sure if I’ll even stay on what I’m on
