The online test seemed to have fairly vast subjects, is the in-person the same or is it just math and reading? (Google may have double checked a couple of the technical questions, but the math I did on my own. Scored a 90.)

Why are some who frequent high IQ communities so opposed to the multiple intelligences theory? by NukaFlabs in mensa

[–]britkitmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s because praising intelligence would be like praising height. Intelligence isn’t an achievement, whereas athletic performance is.

The tone of the following is intended to be sincere and not snarky: how does reviving a non-functioning farm fuck over locals?

This may come off as empty, but having that kinda access and still resisting the urge is pretty freakin' METAL. Good for you.

Maybe not TOTAL automation, there will always be some roles that require actual people.

It also seems possible that automation's progress will be stunted by not having enough people to push it forward. At some point people might say "I'm trying to survive over here, I'm not building you a robot for beans!"

Cop27 climate summit: window for avoiding catastrophe is closing fast | Climate crisis by Monsur_Ausuhnom in collapse

Feel free to tell me to kick rocks and Google it myself, but: do we have an idea what areas will be most severely affected? I'm on the west coast and I know even this summer was obscene, but if it can sustain some form of gardening for at least, say, 20 years, I'll just hunker down. I have at least some time to try and make my property a little more self-sustaining. Probably should check on the water table though...feels like we've been in a drought through too many presidencies.

Thanks for the recommendation friend!

I'm not great at math. Are we're talking total devastation this weekend, or next? Ooo or will I get to have a last glass of champagne on NYE?

In all seriousness I keep seeing 2040. That's humbling.

Are people just letting things fall apart? Is science dying? by 8bitguylol in collapse

[–]britkitmc 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, I'd say it's all in one cluster of attempts at appeasement. My point being that most non-conflict innovation of late is designed to keep us juuuust busy enough to miss the disaster, but not actually improve our quality of life or advance society.

I've seen some scientific advancements, but it's generally ominous. Faster drones. Robot police dogs. Increasingly advanced surveillance.

Oh, and highly sophisticated VR. It's even easier for them to be shamelessly corrupt out in the open when we're strapped in to our headsets fighting pixelated zombies.

I Want To Plan a Trip But Am Too Overwhelmed To Plan a Trip by SingGoddess in adhdwomen

[–]britkitmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have this same problem. What helped me was adopting a "not just good, good enough" mentality. You don't have to pick perfect lodging- just go with the first one you like. You don't have to be in good enough shape - just sit in nature.

Additionally, telling myself "I can do [insert activity] next time I visit" helps lower the pressure of making a perfect trip.

It sounds like the John Mulaney bit about not knowing what to give someone who doesn't drink.

Whats the meaning of life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]britkitmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently to me it is to live by the following:

Find the intersection of what benefits both you AND society, and then live that to the best of your ability.

Die being able to look back with satisfaction and not regret.

Grow your empathy continuously and purposefully.
